Iranian President warns European powers to withdraw their forces from the Middle East

The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has told foreign powers to withdraw their forces from the Middle East, warning they "may be in danger" if they stay in the region. 

The comments came a day after the UK, Germany and France challenged Iran over breaches to the 2015 nuclear accord. 

This the first time the Iranian leader has made a direct threat to EU countries since tensions heightened with the US.

Germany's economy slowed to six-year-low in 2019

Germany's economy grew by just 0.6 per cent in 2019 over the previous year -  its lowest level in six years.

The data comes ahead of a US-China trade agreement due to be signed later today, which is expected to be an important step towards easing the global trade tensions which have exacerbated the slowdown of Europe's largest economy.

US and China due to sign phase one trade deal

The US and China are expected to sign an initial trade deal today that would be a first step in ending the long-running dispute between the world's two largest economies.

The phase one agreement has not yet been made public but its expected to roll back US tariffs on Chinese goods in return for China buying more U.S. crops and products.

It is also expected to include more protection for American technology and trade secrets. But many issues remain unresolved with talks on a Phase Two deal postponed until after the 2020 election.

Donald Trump agrees with UK Prime Minister's call for new Iran nuclear deal
