U.S. Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis diagnosed with pancreatic cancer


U.S. Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis announced over the weekend that he has advanced pancreatic cancer.

The 79-year-old, though, says he'll keep working while he receives treatment.

BANK OF ENGLAND GOVERNOR WARNS FIRMS ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Mark Carney, the outgoing Governor of the Bank of England, says the world will face irreversible heating, unless firms' priorities shift.

UK TEEN FOUND GUILTY OVER FALSE RAPE CLAIM

A British woman has been found guilty of lying about being gang-raped by a group of Israeli men while she was on holiday in Cyprus.

The 19-year-old was convicted on Monday of the charge of causing public mischief. Her lawyers say they will appeal the verdict.

UK GOVT TO REPLACE CAP FUNDING AFTER BREXIT

UK farmers are to receive £3bn ($3.93bn) in funding to support the industry as Britain leaves the EU.

Brexit means Britain will leave the Common Agricultural Policy direct payments scheme in 2020.

The government says its support will allow agriculture to 'thrive', and it will be able to create a less bureaucratic system.

Minette Batters of the National Farmers Union says the industry still needs more reassurance.

NEW YORK STEPS UP SECURITY FOR JEWISH COMMUNITIES

Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio's announced security will be stepped up in Jewish areas due to the 'crisis' of rising anti-Semitic attacks.

School will also teach students how to tackle issues around hate.

On Saturday at least five people were injured in a mass stabbing at a rabbi's house in New York State.

Bill de Blasio had already announced extra police patrols in parts of Brooklyn with large Jewish populations.

And now the Mayor of New York says authorities will go further still.

BRITISH BORDER FORCE RESCUES 49 MIGRANTS

Japan hangs first foreigner in a decade

Japan executed a 40-year old Chinese national on Thursday who had been convinced of killing a family of four in 2003. 

It's only the second execution of a foreign national since Japan started making public details of those they kill in 2007.

UK economic growth for 2019 forecast to be just 1%

The British economy is on track for the weakest year outside a recession since the Second World War, as political turmoil and Brexit uncertainty draggs down growth.

MSF STOPS EBOLA ACTIVITIES

International Medical charity, Doctors Without Borders has stopped its Ebola prevention activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Biakato territory due to the presence of Congolese soldiers at health facilities.

China Warns EU Over Restricting Access

China's ambassador to the EU has issued a stark warning to the bloc over pursuing policies intended to curb Chinese companies' access to Europe.
