Billionaire conservative donor David Koch dies at 79


Billionaire David Koch, who alongside his brother Charles was a major donor to the US Republican party, has died at the age of 79.

The controversial brothers have spent more than $1 billion over several recent elections to support conservative candidates.

Chinese media accuses detained British consulate worker of soliciting prostitute

A British Consulate employee being detained in China has now been accused by Chinese state media of solicitation of a prostitute. Hong Kong citizen Simon Cheng was last heard from two weeks ago after he went missing on a business trip.

Biarritz goes into lockdown for G7 summit

A huge security operation has begun in the French town where world leaders will gather for the G7 summit this weekend. 

Roads, train stations and the airport near Biarritz have all been closed to make it more difficult for protesters to disrupt the event.

Optimism over Brexit Deal after UK and French Leaders Meet


There's a glimmer of optimism that a no-deal Brexit may be avoided, after a meeting between UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron ended with some suggestion that an alternative solution to the controversial Irish backstop can be found.


Mr Macron, however, said there would not be a new withdrawal agreement that was very different form the existing one.

UK Prime Minister to discuss Brexit with French President

Merkel: Irish backstop could be resolved 'in thirty days'

Ahead of her meeting with British prime minister Boris Johnson, German chancellor Angela Merkel suggested that a solution to the Irish backstop issue that has hampered Brexit talks was possible 'within thirty days'.


However, it would be up to the UK to propose a realistic alternative to making contingency plans for the Irish border in the event of a no deal Brexit.

Boris Johnson believes eleventh hour Brexit deal possible

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has met with his German counterpart Angela Merkel in Berlin, trying to persuade the Chancellor that the EU should do a last minute deal on Brexit.


Mr Johnson wants the EU to remove the controversial Irish backstop from the Brexit deal secured by his predecessor Theresa May.


But the EU has said unless a workable alternative solution is found, the backstop stays.


However the UK Prime Minister said he believes a deal can be reached, but that probably won't happen until the very last minute.

Rwanda, Uganda Peace Pact

Uganda and Rwanda have signed a peace pact to resolve the long-standing diplomatic row between the two countries.
