Russian plane makes emergency landing in field

At least 23 people have been injured after a plane made an emergency landing outside Moscow. The Ural Airlines aircraft suffered an engine failure after hitting a flock of birds. Julia Chapman reports.

China's Huawei Spy Claims

Intro;


Chinese Tech Giant Huawei and Israeli firms have been accused of helping African governments spy on their political opponents.

 

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Huawei is helping the Ugandan government to hack mobile phones and to listen in on conversations of opposition leaders.

 

The Chinese telecom company has faced criticism over concerns that Beijing may be using their equipment to spy or sabotage critical infrastructure.

New study shows high levels of microplastic pollution

TUVALU: NZ Prime Minister Ardern says Australia must answer to the Pacific on climate change

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, speaking at the Pacific Islands Forum in Tuvalu says Australia has to answer to the Pacific on climate change, whilst also saying New Zealand is doing what it can to limit global emissions and expects others to do the same.
Ms Ardern however stopped short of putting New Zealand shoulder-to-shoulder with the smaller Pacific Island nations who have called on Australia to commit to a rapid transition from a coal-based economy.

India's Prime Minister defends Kashmir move in Independence Day address

On the occasion of India's 73rd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in New Delhi. 

This was Mr. Modi's first Independence Day speech after his government won a landslide majority in May's general elections and hdefended the government's move to strip Indian administered Kashmir of the ability to make its own laws.

CORBYN CARETAKER GOVT IDEA DISMISSED BY LIB DEMS

Britain's Liberal Democrats are dismissing a plan from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to oust the government and install him as caretaker Prime Minister to avoid a hard Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn wants other oppposition parties to back him in a vote of no confidence against Boris Johnson's government.

He would then lead a caretaker administration to extend the Brexit process, push for an election, and then campaign for a second referendum.

Mr Corbyn says this is the best way to avoid a 'no deal' Brexit on October 31st.

Plane crash footballer was exposed to carbon monoxide

New details have been revealed about a plane crash in January which killed footballer Emiliano Sala.

Toxicology results show the player had been exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide.

Hong Kong Airport Reopens After Protest

Flights have resumed at Hong Kong's airport after protestors clashed with police inside the terminal buildings.

German economy shrinks in Q2
