US watchdog report details 'dangerous, overcrowded' conditions for detained migrants

A ticking time-bomb - the assessment of a government watchdog into the dire conditions for thousands of migrants held in US detention facilities

Based on visits to five different centers in Texas, a Department of Homeland Security report found dangerous levels of overcrowding, in squalid conditions.

US rallies to protest conditions at border centers

Rallies have been held across the United States to protest the
conditions at the detention centers for migrants who have crossed the
US-Mexico border.

Campaign groups are asking the Trump administration to improve the
situation and ultimately close the centers.

It follows a number of damning eyewitness reports from lawyers and
lawmakers who have visited the centers.

14 dead after flooding in eastern Russia

At least 14 people have been killed in flash floods in Russia's Irkutsk region.

Flooding began in late June after torrential rain. More than six thousand homes and thousands of residents have been affected so far.

Rising heat to cost India 34 million full-time jobs by 2030

A new report by the International Labour Organisation has calculated the exact cost to the world economy because of rising temperatures.

Its report says heat stress arising from climate change will lead to a productivity loss equivalent to 80-million full-time jobs by 2030.
