UK TO CUT EMISSIONS TO 'ZERO' BY 2050

The UK will commit to cutting greenhouse gas emissions to close to zero by 2050, according to new plans.

Britain would be the first G7 nation to adopt such a target to attempt to slow climate change.

Emissions from industry, transport, homes and farming will either have to be cut completely - or offset where that's not possible.

The plans have received praise from some environmentalists - others say it's too late.

Dave Timms from Friends of the Earth says the target must be hit.
