Comedian Jon Stewart excoriates Congress over 9/11 victim funding

Comedian Jon Stewart has issued a blistering attack on the US congress during a hearing on healthcare funding for 9/11 first responders.

Many lawmakers on the panel did not attend, which the former late night TV host described as "shameful".

He said their failure to follow public statements through with real legislative action showed "callous indifference' and rank hypocrisy".

Almost 100 killed in Mali village attack

Armed men in Mali have killed around 100 people in an apparent
ethnically-motivated attack on a village in the Mopti region.

Mali's government said "suspected terrorists" attacked the village of
the Dogon ethnic group during the night.

The attackers murdered a third of the village's inhabitants and burned homes.

It's unclear if members of a jihadist group were responsible or
semi-nomadic Fulani herders, who have clashed frequently with Dogon
hunters.

The Associate Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Eri Kaneko, gave
more details about the United Nations' response to the attack.
