Uganda Storm Kills 18

Intro;

 

About 18 people are confirmed dead and about 150 reported injured after a storm swept through 10 villages in Eastern Uganda.

 

The Uganda Red Cross says property and livestock were also destroyed.

CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES

Almost half of all child sexual abuse imagery reported to the Internet Watch Foundation in 2018 were discovered in the Netherlands.


In it's annual report the organisation says over 100,000 web addresses were hosting illegal images last year.

Death toll rises following suicide bombings in Sri Lanka

The death toll from the suicide bombings on churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday has risen to 359, while 500 were injured. [CHECK LATEST NUMBERS]

ISIS has claimed it was behind the attacks. Questions are being raised over whether more could have been done to prevent the bombings, given the intelligence available.

Putin, Kim to hold first summit in Vladivostok on Thursday

Russia has confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will be meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this Thursday. It will be their first meeting and comes as North Korean talks with the U.S. falter.

Kim and Putin will meet in Russia's far east in the city Vladivostok.

 

They'll reportedly hold the summit at a local university.

 

North Korean state media says Kim is traveling with an entourage of top party officials.

 

It's the first time in eight years that North Korean and Russian heads of state will meet.

 

Kim wants the United Nations to lift international economic sanctions against North Korea.

 

He'll likely ask Putin for help.

 

So far, Kim's efforts with the U.S. on sanctions have shown little progress.

US Insists Denuclearization Remains Goal as Kim Heads to Russia

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is on his way by train to the Russian far-east city of Vladivostok, where he's expected to meet President Vladimir Putin.

Royals Reportedly Planning Move to Africa

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may move to Africa as part of a major new international role following the birth of their baby. 

According to reports in the UK royal advisors at Buckingham Palace are working on a "bespoke" role for the couple which could see them relocate from their home in Windsor for up to three years.

Twitter reports more users and higher revenues

Social media website, Twitter, has posted better-than-expected quarterly revenue and an increase in the number of users.

The surprise results suggest its efforts to police spam accounts and abusive posts are helping to attract users and advertisers.

Easter Sunday Massacre a Retaliatory Attack

Sri Lanka's Minister of State for Defence says the Easter Sunday attack was in response to the mass shooting at a New Zealand mosque.

Notre Dame could face further damage from forecast rain

A protective sheet is being rolled over the burnt roof of Notre Dame Cathedral to prevent rain damaging the building further.

Luxembourg's Grand Duke Dies


Luxembourg's Grand Duke Jean has died at the age of 98. 

He stepped down in 2000 after 36 years as head of state.

MASS FUNERALS IN SRI LANKA

Mass funerals have started in Sri Lanka on a day of mourning for the victims of Sunday's terror attacks.

Police say 310 people are now known to have died at churches and hotels.

A state of emergency remains in place in Sri Lanka to try and stop any further attacks.

Police have arrested 40 people in connection with the bomb blasts, while the government says local Islamist group NTJ was behind them.

CLIMATE PROTESTS FOCUS ON WESTMINSTER

Climate protests in the UK are into their second week, with over 1000 people now arrested.

Demonstrators are focusing on Westminster on Tuesday - demanding meetings with lawmakers, and insisting a citizens' assembly is set up to focus on climate issues.

Extinction Rebellion, which is organizing the protests, is planning further action in London throughout the week.

But the demonstrations are being criticised over the disruption being caused to the British capital, and the strain on police.

India votes in third phase of polls, the largest so far

188 million voters in over 110 constituencies in India will vote in the third phase of a seven phased election.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking re-election. He's being challenged by Rahul Gandhi- the chief of India's main Opposition party, Congress.

The general election began on April 11 and will end on May 19. Votes will be counted on May 23.
