Actor wins first round of Ukrainian presidential election

An actor and comedian has become the frontrunner in the Ukrainian presidential election, comfortably winning the first round.


He'll face incumbent Petro Poroshenko in the run-off vote.

India's Jet Airways pilots demand payment of salaries amid airline's financial crisis

Pilots at struggling Indian airline Jet Airways say that they'll give the carrier two weeks to clear their unpaid salaries.

They are threatening to strike if they do not receive the pay owed to them.

Trump's aides say border closure threat is serious

US doctors complete first-ever HIV kidney transplant

The US has performed what's believed to be the first-ever HIV kidney transplant.


Surgeons at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, have transplanted a kidney from a woman living with HIV, to an HIV-positive patient.


It's being touted as a major milestone for patients living with the disease.

Ride hailing firm Lyft goes public

The ride-hailing company Lyft has opened trading at over $87 a share.

The IPO price was set at $72 per share valuing the company at a little
over $24 billion.

It's now the biggest firm to go public since China's e-commerce giant
Alibaba in 2014.

US Treasury Secretary: latest trade talks with China were "constructive"

UK PM's Brexit Withdrawal Bill Defeated

The British Prime Minister's EU Withdrawal Agreement has been defeated by a majority of 58 votes in Parliament.


The country was given the deadline of March 29th by the EU to agree to a deal or face a no-deal scenario on 12th April. To avoid a cliff edge exit, Britain will now have to find an alternative route, which could mean a number of outcomes including a long extension.

Film director Agnes Varda dies aged 90

French film director Agnes Varda has died in Paris at the age of 90.

One of the pioneers of Nouvelle Vague cinema, she continued to make films until the end of her life, winning a honorary Oscar in 2017.

Germany extends Saudi weapons ban

Germany will extend a ban on weapons exports to Saudi Arabia for another six months, but agreed to a ninth month extension for export licenses that have already been granted.

The compromise allows the UK and France to continue with joint projects using German components that had been under question because of the ban.

Yellow Vests ringleader fined for organising illegal demonstrations

Belgium Projects GDP Drop if No Deal Brexit

New figures from the Belgian government show the country's economy would contract by nearly one percent if there's a no deal Brexit.

Trump, Moon to hold summit in Washington on N. Korea

South Korea says Moon and Trump will hold a summit on April 11th in Washington.

 

A spokesperson for Moon said they'll coordinate their position on how to achieve peace through denuclearization.

 

It's their first meeting since Trump and Kim Jong-un failed to reach a deal at their summit in Hanoi last month.

 

Washington remains positive about talks with Kim.

Venezuela Bans Opposition Leader from Running for Office

The Venezuelan government has banned  opposition leader Juan Guaidó  from running for office for the next 15 years.
