It's day five and counting for Venezuelans dealing with a massive power blackout. 

Authorities have not said how long it might take to resolve.

Democrats choose symbolic location for national convention

The Democratic party in the US will pick its 2020 presidential nominee in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The party's national convention will be held there next July. 

The move is being seen as symbolic after Hillary Clinton lost the state in to the 2016 election having failed to visit it on the campaign trail.

21 UN members die in Ethiopia plane crash

A spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General says an
estimated 21 UN members died in Sunday's plane crash.

The Ethiopia Airlines flight took off from the country's capital Addis
Ababa en route to Kenya but crashed shortly after.

All 157 people on board were killed and some airlines have grounded
their Boeing 737 MAX 8 passenger jets.

Consortium avoids losing EU money over France - Italy rail link

The consortium behind a disputed rail link between France and Italy has invited construction firms to bid for the next round of works. 

The company had until today to start the tender process or risk losing EU money for the project.

It comes amid severe opposition to the project from one of the Italian government's coalition partners.

Trump's budget calls for $8.6bn in wall funding

President Trump is requesting an additional 8.6 billion dollars to fund his controversial border wall in his proposed budget for 2020.

The total $4.7 trillion dollar budget plan is likely to be rejected by Congress, but could set up a new government funding battle and spark fears of another government shutdown.

BOEING UNDER PRESSURE OVER 737 MAX 8

Plane-maker Boeing is under pressure over its new 737 Max 8 model after the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday which killed 157 people.

It's the second crash in months for the plane, which was also the model in the Lion Air disaster in Indonesia in October.

China and Ethiopian Airlines have grounded all 737 Max 8s after the crash close to Addis Ababa. 

Investigations are underway to work out why the plane came down.

One of those who died was Joanna Tool, a UN worker.

Thousands gather for internet protests in Moscow

Thousands of people took to the streets of Moscow on Sunday to protest against a bill proposing greater controls over Russia's internet.

The votes are reportedly being tallied.


But the outcome will be no surprise.


Voters around the country only have one choice for their representative to the Supreme People's Assembly.


The candidates are chosen by Kim Jong-un's ruling Workers Party and two minor parties.


But they all back Kim's governing alliance.


The legislature has little, if any, independent power.


During the last election in 2014, state media reported nearly 100 percent turnout.


And that year, Kim was unanimously elected to his seat in the legislature.
