UK PM 'CONSIDERS BREXIT DELAY'

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is reportedly considering committing to a Brexit delay if she can't secure a deal with the EU by mid-March.

She's told lawmakers they'll get a so-called 'meaningful vote' on a Brexit deal by March 12th.

But Mrs May is under pressure from some MPs to rule out a 'no deal' Brexit if she can't reach an agreement with the EU that she can get through the UK's House of Commons.

She's been holding Brexit talks at an EU summit in Sharm-el-Sheikh and continues to insist changes can be won to the controversial Irish border backstop solution.

Conservative MP Dominic Grieve says law-makers will take action themselves anyway.

President Macron recovering in polls ahead of European elections

With three months to go before crucial European elections, polls in France suggest good news for President Emmanuel Macron - after months of sometimes violent protests against his government.

Moldova election ends in hung parliament

Moldova may be heading towards a hung parliament after elections on Sunday which appear to have split the vote between pro-European and pro-Russian forces. Twitter to appear before parliamentary panel in India

Trump delays further tariffs on China after "substantial progress" in trade talks

President Donald Trump has announced that the US will delay imposing more tariffs on Chinese goods.
Mr Trump had threatened to raise duties from 10 per cent to 25 per cent from Friday.
But as Kate Fisher reports, he says "substantial progress" has been made in trade talks allowing further tariffs to be delayed.

R. Kelly charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse

The R&B singer R. Kelly has been charged with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse by prosecutors in Chicago.


The move comes after videotape emerged allegedly showing the R&B singer assaulting an underage girl.

Iran given until June to strengthen anti-money laundering rules

Iran has been given four more months to strengthen its anti-money laundering rules.

Pakistan to remain on watchlist for terror financing

The global anti-money laundering watchdog says Pakistan will remain on its terror financing watchlist.

India to block off excess water supply to Pakistan

The Indian government has said it is working on a plan to restrict the flow of excess water to Pakistan from its share of rivers.

This is the latest in a series of steps taken by the Indian government in the aftermath of a suicide bombing in Kashmir, that a Pakistan based militant outfit claimed responsibility for.

Germany records 5th straight yearly budget surplus

For a fifth year in a row, Germany took in more money than it spent, notching its highest budget surplus since the country's reunification in nineteen eighty nine.

S. Korean income gap marks record high last year


South Korea's income gap has shot up dramatically despite the government's efforts to increase wages for low earners.
Bruce Harrison reports from Seoul.

The bottom 20 percent of earners made about 11-hundred dollars a month in the fourth quarter of 2018, down nearly 18 percent on-year.

Meanwhile, the top 20 percent earned nearly 83-hundred dollars a month, up more than ten percent on year.

Some analysts are blaming the growing income disparity on President Moon's minimum wage hike.

So far, his income-led growth strategy and tax hikes to boost the economy have been met with criticism.

But his government says the measures need time to yield positive results.

Youth unemployment is also at a 19-year high.  

Some critics say Moon's economic promises have take a backseat to reconciliation efforts with North Korea.

U.S. to leave 200 troops in Syria

The White House says a small peacekeeping group of 200 troops will
remain in Syria after a U.S. withdrawal.

In December President Trump announced that 2,000 American troops were
leaving the country in a move that prompted the resignation of his

Chicago police say actor staged attack to advance his career

Chicago's police chief says the actor Jussie Smollett staged a racist
and homophobic attack to advance his career.

The Empire TV series star says two men put a noose around his neck
during the incident in late January.

But Smollett has now been arrested and charged with lying to police
