South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in India for two day state visit

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is on his first ever state visit to India.

Apart from bilateral talks with the Indian Prime Minister, President Ramaphosa will also be the chief guest at India's Republic Day military parade- only the second South African President after Nelson Mandela to be accorded that honour.

Venezuelan Stalemate Continues

The stalemate continues in Venezuela, as two men insist they're the legitimate heads of state. Opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido proclaimed himself Venezuela's rightful leader during nationwide protests Wednesday. Meanwhile Nicolas Maduro —  re-elected in a widely disputed election last May —insists he will not step down.

US Senate rejects government funding bills

The US Senate has rejected two bills that would end the government shutdown now in its second month.

Both bills were expected to fail, but there is some hope Democrats and Republicans could now work on a bipartisan compromise to re-open the goverment.

has heard how his wife helped plan his 2015 jail break.

Aid restrictions impacting 50,000 people in Myanmar

A clampdown on aid activities in Myanmar's Rakhine State is impacting
at least 50,000 people. That's according to a United Nations internal
note obtained by Reuters.

A military crackdown in 2017 resulted in over 700,000 Rohingya muslims
fleeing into neighboring Bangladesh.

And regional officials say aid restrictions have been put in place
this month because of security reasons.

Rescuers pull out first body from Indian coal mine

Six weeks after 15 miners were first trapped in an illegal mine in the Indian state of Meghalaya, rescuers have finally managed to retrieve one body.

Kim Jong-un praises Trump ahead of second summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is reportedly 'greatly satisfied' with the latest letter his received from U.S. President Donald Trump. The two leaders are expected to hold their second summit at the end of next month.

According to North Korean state media, leader Kim Jong-un spoke highly of President Trump's determination to resolve their countries' issues.


The report said Kim will be patient and advance with the U.S. step by step toward their goal.


At their first summit, the leaders agreed to rid the Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons and bring lasting peace.


But little progress has been made since that meeting.


Kim has made it clear he only wants to negotiate with Trump.


This may be a sign Kim believes Trump could deliver on North Korea's desired concessions, such as a peace treaty or eased international sanctions.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has broken his country's diplomatic relationship with the United States.Maduro made the announcement just hours after US President Trump recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the legitimate President of Venezuela.So far, in addition to the US, Canada, the OAS, and several South American countries  have also recognised Guaido as interim president.
