May wins confidence vote

British Prime Minister Theresa May has survived a vote of no confidence in her government by a majority of 19.  The motion was called by the opposition Labour party after a humiliating defeat of her Brexit plans. 

Despite a large rebellion of Conservative MPs voting against May's Brexit Withdrawal Agreement Tuesday evening, on Wednesday they voted to keep her in power.   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's government has defeated a no confidence vote.

325 lawmakers voted in her favour - as opposed to 306 for the no confidence motion tabled by the opposition Labour Party.

It followed a huge defeat for Theresa May's Brexit deal on Tuesday.

And she's now offered to hold talks with leaders of all political parties on how to reach a new Brexit strategy.

US Troops Among Dead in Suicide Bomb Claimed by ISIS

US troops are among more than a dozen people reportedly killed in a bomb attack in Syria, claimed by Islamic State. This comes just weeks after President Donald Trump declared ISIS defeated in Syria and announced he would pull all American forces out of the country.

Fmr Mexican President accused of taking $100 million in bribes

A former associate of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman says the drug lord once paid ex Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto a $100 million bribe.

The accusation emerged in a New York courtroom during Guzman's trial for drug trafficking charges.

Russian foreign minister calls for 'responsible approach' to arms control

Russia's foreign minister has expressed his readiness to save a nuclear treaty with the U.S., despite being issued an ultimatum.

EU watching vote of confidence in British government closely

Brussels is watching the vote of no confidence against the incumbent government in the UK closely.

British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to defeat the challenge called by the opposition after the Brexit deal she agreed with the European Union took a battering in a vote in the House of Commons on Tuesday.

Many in the EU now expect Britan to ask for an extension to the negotiating period which ends on the 29th of March.

Trump administration calls back more government workers as shutdown reaches 26th day

With no end in sight for the partial US government shut down, the Trump administration is calling back tens of thousands of federal workers to fulfill vital roles.

The president is also expected to sign legislation providing 800,000 federal employees still working with back pay once it ends.

But now in its 26th day, a conclusion to the impasse seems a long way off.

It was brought by opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn after May's Brexit deal with the EU took a hammering in the houses of parliament.

432 MPs voted against it and only 202 voted in favour.

Clashes at Indian temple over the entry of women

Protests broke out at an Indian shrine after two women devotees tried to enter an 800-year-old temple.

Last year, the Indian Supreme Court ruled in favour of allowing women of menstruating age entry into the temple, overturning a centuries old ban.

Seoul's foreign minister says US, DPRK talks to resume quickly


South Korea's foreign minister says she expects talks between the U.S. and North Korea to resume quickly. Minister Kang Kyung-hwa's comments come amid reports a top North Korean official will visit Washington in the coming days.

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa told reporters the U.S. and North Korea have confirmed their strong will for a second summit.

She said if President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un meet, they'll have complete talks on denuclearization.

She added the talks would be based on a strategy coordinated by Washington and Seoul.

Kang also mentioned the possibility of Kim visiting South Korea.

The minister's comments come amid U.S. and South Korean media reports that top North Korean Kim Yong-chol will visit Washington this week.

The European Union says the chances of a disorderly Brexit are greater, now that the UK House of Commons has voted down the divorce deal.

EU leaders it is now up to the UK to come up with a firm consensus on the type of Brexit it wants.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered an historic defeat, after her Brexit Withdrawal Agreement was rejected by a majority of 230 MPs. 


Downing Street had been poised for a rebellion, as tens of Conservative MPs joined with other parties vehemently opposed to the so called divorce agreement Theresa May struck with the European Union.  However the scale of the defeat was worse than government officials had been expecting.

UN diplomats condemn Nairobi attack

Diplomats at the United Nations condemned Tuesday's deadly attack at a luxury hotel complex in Nairobi that reportedly killed at least three people.
