Trump threatens to 'devastate Turkey economically'

US President Donald Trump says he "will devastate Turkey economically" if they attack US-allied Kurdish fighters in Syria.

In a Tweet, Mr Trump said he didn't want the Kurds to provoke Turkey either. Ankara regards YPG Kurdish fighters as terrorists.

Report: FBI launched probe into whether Donald Trump is a Russian government asset

The White House is dismissing as "absurd" a report that the FBI opened an investigation into whether President Trump was working as a Russian government asset.


The New York Times says a counterintelligence investigation was launched by the FBI in the spring of 2017.

Missing Teenager Leads Police to Suspected Abductor

The frantic search for  a 13 year old Wisconsin girl is over. 

Police say Jayme Closs escaped  from the remote residence of a man they think kidnapped her after allegedly murdering her parents.

UN Security Council meet on DRC election results

UN rights envoy says abuses in N. Korea must be addressed


The UN rights investigator for North Korea says human rights must be included in denuclearization talks. Kim Jong-un met with multiple world leaders last year. But widespread allegations of rights abuses in his country were never addressed.

Tomas Ojea Quintana told reporters that human rights are guaranteed through peace… and peace is secured through human rights.

He said the issue was sidelined in last years nuclear talks, but that can't be the case this year.

UN commissions have concluded Pyongyang is responsible for enslavement, torture, forced abortion and other crimes against humanity.

The leaders of South Korea and U.S. have avoided the topic in talks with Kim Jong-un, suggesting abuses will be addressed once the nuclear threat is resolved.

But so far little apparent progress has been made on denuclearization.

Japanese Olympic chief investigated in France for corruption

The President of Japan's Olympic committee is being investigated for corruption according to France's financial crimes office.

It's in relation to the awarding of the 2020 summer games to Tokyo.

The Japanese sporting official has denied acting improperly and says no bribery took place.

German military deployed amid snow chaos

More than 300 hundred German military personnel have been deployed in the wake of a winter storm which has killed at least nine people in Germany and Austria.

Russian space chief blasts American sanctions

India's investigative agency chief fired days after being reinstated

A panel led by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fired the head of a federal investigative body, just days after he was reinstated by India's Supreme Court.

Former Trump lawyer to testify publicly before Congress

President Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen has agreed to testify publicly before Congress next month. 

Last month Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty to financial crimes and was sentenced to three years behind bars. 

The announcement of a Cohen hearing before Congress is widely seen as the first sign that the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives could lead to much greater scrutiny of the presidency.

Shinzo Abe lends Theresa May support, urges UK to avoid a no deal Brexit

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has offered his support for Theresa May's Brexit deal in a visit that comes just days ahead of a crucial parliamentary vote. 

Mr Abe said Japan wanted to add to it's already considerable investment in the UK and very much hoped the UK would not leave the European Union without a deal.    

He  also said the UK would be welcome to join the Trans Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement between 11 countries including the US, Japan, Canada and Australia. 

The visit comes as MPs continue to debate Theresa May's Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, which many believe will strongly rejected in a vote next Tuesday evening.
