The State Department says Stephen Biegun will meet senior South Korean officials on Wednesday and Thursday.

Talks are expected to center on how to end North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

Little progress to that end has been made since President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un met in June.

Kim had agreed with South Korea's President Moon Jae-in to visit Seoul this year.

The visit was expected to give a boost to dialogue.

But it no longer appears likely Kim will cross the border before the end of the month.

According to local media, Seoul City says it will cost roughly 3.4-billion dollars to the host the 2032 Olympics.

And that's excluding Pyongyang's share of the bill.

Amid warming ties, the leaders of North and South Korea agreed earlier this year to jointly host the games.

South Korea hosted the Winter Olympics in February. And North Korea had expressed interest in sharing those games as well.

But there were massive concerns about infrastructure and safety in the North.

With North Korea still heavily sanctioned, the possibility of a joint games in the future is also still very uncertain.
