Trump targets Macron in barrage of tweets

U.S. President Donald Trump has taken to social media to berate his
French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

In several tweets, President Trump criticized French tariffs on U.S.
wine, Macron's military plans and highlighted his latest approval
ratings.

CNN sues US President Donald Trump after correspondent's White House access suspended


CNN is suing US President Donald Trump and several administration officials over the temporary suspension of their correspondent Jim Acosta's access to the White House.

WhatsApp sets-up research teams to look into Indian mob lynchings

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has announced that it is setting up 20 research teams worldwide- including experts from India- who will work towards understanding how misinformation spreads and what additional steps the platform needs to take to curb fake news.

This comes after 30 people were lynched by mobs in India this year on account of fake messages spread over WhatsApp.

Italy remains defiant on budget against EU demands

The Italian government says it would be committing economic suicide if it buckles to European Union pressure over its budget plan.

With an imminent deadline (midnight Tuesday Central European Time) to resubmit a budget to Brussels which controls spending more, Rome says it won't move one iota.

'CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM' OVER BREXIT TALKS

The UK government says there's 'cautious optimism on both sides' that a Brexit deal can be reached soon.

Talks again went late into the night in Brussels on Monday, and Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington says it's 'possible but not at all definite' an agreement could be made in the next 48 hours.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's cabinet meets on Tuesday with a solution not yet arrived at for the crucial Irish backstop issue.

London has been hoping to reach a deal this week so as to allow an EU summit this month.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies used satellite imagery to locate the undeclared ballistic-missile bases.


The think-tank says it believes North Korea is maintaining more than a dozen sites.


International nuclear experts quickly rebuked media criticism that leader Kim Jong-un is breaking promises he made during summits this year.


Referencing one of the bases, a Seoul government official said Kim never mentioned that base or promised to shut it down.


The official said there's no deception. If anything, he added, this is a sign talks are needed to end North Korea's military threat.
