Korean pop icons BTS booted from Japanese TV show

A Japanese TV music program has canceled an appearance by world famous Korean pop idol group BTS (BEE-TEA-S).  South Korea and Japan's difficult history still often creates trouble between the neighbors... but not usually in the music world.

Bruce Harrison from reports from Seoul.

The trouble started with a shirt.

BTS member Jimin wore a shirt depicting the U.S. atomic bombing of Japan.

Some South Korean media report he wore it on the day Koreans celebrate liberation from Japan.

Another band member, RM, Tweeted about his pride for Korea's independence fighters.

TV Asahi hosts the show 'Music Station', and says the shirt and tweets caused a stir in Japan.

So it booted BTS.

Lately, South Korea and Japan's relations have grown more tense.

Just last month, a Seoul court ordered a Japanese company to compensate Koreans it forced into hard labor during the war.

Tokyo claims that dispute was settled long ago.

Abrams takes command of U.S. forces in Korea

U.S. Army Gen. Robert Abrams has assumed command of U.S. forces in South Korea. In his new role, he's also in charge of maintaining the armistice that ended fighting but not the war between North and South Korea.

Rain fell on the change-of-command ceremony south of Seoul as Gen. Robert Abrams relieved Gen. Vincent Brooks of his duties.

Abrams will lead U.S. forces in South Korea, as well as the United Nations Command and the South Korea-U.S. combined forces command.

The UN command manages the armistice that stopped fighting during the Korean War. That agreement includes oversight of all activity in the DMZ.

Lately, the Koreas have been drawing down security along their shared-border in order to build trust.

But for now those moves may be superficial. The U.S. and North Korea are struggling to hold more talks, and Abrams said it's important to maintain a "fight tonight capability" on the Korean Peninsula.
