Koreas to inform IOC of plan to jointly host 2032 Olympics

Sport is one of the few areas in which North and South Korea have repeatedly cooperated.
But Seoul and Pyongyang want more than unified sports teams. They want the Olympics, on both sides of the their shared border.
Two countries have never hosted the Olympics, summer or winter.
It's very unclear logistically how that would work.
North Korea would likely need outside funding for infrastructure.
But that could violate current international sanctions punishing the North for its nuclear weapons program.
Earlier this year, IOC President Thomas Bach said the committee welcomes North and South's intent to host the Games.
But progress on a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and not just Bach's blessing, may be the only way forward.
