Thousands of hopeful migrants brave heat and lack of food on road to America

A migrant caravan of several thousand Central Americans is continuing to travel through Mexico towards the United States despite President Donald Trump vowing they will not be allowed to cross the border.

Our correspondent Harry Horton is traveling with the caravan. He says there are hundreds of women and children on the journey, and the harsh conditions have forced many to drop out.

U.S. economy grew 3.5% in third quarter

The U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.5% in the third
quarter marking the strongest six month period since 2014.

President Trump says his administration is largely responsible for a
strengthening economy and Republicans will likely use this to try and
win voters in the upcoming midterm elections.

Suspect identified in U.S. mail bombing spree

Officials in the U.S. have identified a suspect linked to sending a
dozen explosive packages to Democrats and critics of President Trump.

The man has been identified as 56-year-old Cesar Sayok and is now in custody.

Khashoggi's son arrives in US

Two new suspected mail bombs sent to US Democrats

Two new suspected package bombs have been found in the US, taking the
total to 12.

They were addressed to Senator Cory Booker and former intelligence

targeted.

UK Politician defends decision to name Sir Philip Green as businessman accused of sexual and racial harassment



The Politician who named Sir Philip Green as the businessman accused in a British newspaper of sexual and racial harassment has defended his actions.


Lord Peter Hain used parliamentary privilege  - a legal immunity designed to allow Parliamentarians to carry out their duties free from interference - to reveal that retail tycoon Sir Philip Green had placed an injunction on his name and details of the allegations being published.


But some believe Lord Hain did the wrong thing, as UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports.

Korea's hold high-level talks on preventing military agression

Generals from North and South Korea's militaries have held another round talks at the DMZ. They aim to form a committee they hope prevents accidental clashes and other crises along the heavily armed border dividing the Koreas.

North and South Korea both have powerful armies and weapons massed along the border.


So, under a deal signed last month, they're forming a committee to prevent military aggression.


At their latest high-level meeting, the Koreas discussed who would make up that committee and how it would manage the reduction of guard posts along the DMZ.


Regular committee meetings would also discuss troop movements and military exercises on both sides of the border.


The meeting comes after both sides removed firearms and troops and guard posts from the Joint Security Area in the DMZ.

FBI searches postal facility near Miami in hunt for person behind suspected explosive packages


The FBI has searched a postal facility near Miami as they try to find the person behind a series of suspected explosive packages sent to high profile Americans.

The Clintons, Obamas and Hollywood actor Robert De Niro were among the intended targets.

Google Memo Details Response to Sexual Harassment Allegations

Google has reportedly issued an explanation to its employees about the company response to sexual harassment allegations. 

The internal memo is in response to a report in the New York Times that says Google gave the creator of the Android mobile phone a multibillion dollar exit package after he had been accused of sexual misconduct.

Saudi Arabia Reversal on Khashoggi Killing

Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor says new evidence indicates journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death was no accident. 

And CIA Director Gina Haspel has returned to Washington from an intelligence gathering mission in Turkey, where she  reportedly heard an audio recording of Khashoggi's killing.

UK apologises after immigrants wrongly forced to take DNA tests

The British Home Secretary has apologised after it was discovered that officials wrongly forced immigrants to take DNA tests, to prove they were entitled to settle in the UK.


A review into the matter found that some relatives of Gurkhas and Afghan nationals employed by the British government were among those asked to provide the DNA proof.

Koreas finish removal of weapons from Joint Security Area


South and North Korea have completed removing troops, guard posts and weapons from the Joint Security Area with the help of the United Nations Command. Now stripped of its weapons, the two Koreas want that area within the DMZ to be one of peace, and not hostility.

The Joint Security Area is usually the spot for negotiations between the two Koreas.

But it's also been the scene of several bloody shootouts since the end of the Korean War.

To prevent that from happening again and help along current peace talks, all troops and weapons were removed from that area.

Unarmed North and South Korean military police will now be able to patrol freely on both sides of the line separating the two countries.

And the changes could mean a boon for DMZ tourism. Korean visitors and foreign tourists will also be able to step across that famous dividing line.

New explosives devices target Biden & De Niro

US police have intercepted two more suspected bombs addressed to
former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro.

In total nine devices have been discovered since Monday, targeting
high profile Democrats including former President Barack Obama and
Bill Clinton.

President Donald Trump is blaming the media for "anger" that is
stoking tensions.

Facebook fined for serious breach of the law


The UK's date protection watchdog has fined Facebook  $640,000 for its role in the data scandal involving British firm Cambridge Analytica.

Landmine sweeps in DMZ unearth Korean War remains


The South Korean military has discovered Korean War remains as it sweeps for mines in the DMZ. Both Koreas hope to discover more war dead as peace efforts lead to the removal of mines and other weapons from the border.

South Korea's defense ministry says two sets of remains were discovered near Arrowhead Ridge.

The area saw intense fighting during the Korean War.

Soldiers from both Koreas are now removing landmines ahead a project next year to recover war remains.

The landmine sweeps are part of an inter-Korean deal to gradually remove weapons and guard posts along the DMZ.

The ministry believes one set of remains belong to a young army Sergeant.

President Moon Jae-in Tweeted the young Sergeant now returns to us… 65 years after he was killed in action.

Russia sees NATO exercise as 'sabre-rattling'


50,000 troops from more than 30 NATO countries are beginning military exercises in Northern Europe, known as Trident Juncture 2018.  NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says the drills send a clear message that the alliance is ready to defend allies against any threat. But Russia has called them 'reckless sabre rattling', as Lucy Taylor reports.
