India's Supreme Court to hear petitions challenging ruling to allow women to enter famous temple

India's top court says it will hear petitions challenging its ruling to allow entry of women to a Hindu temple in Kerala.

Women had been banned from entering the Sabarimala temple until the ban was lifted by the Supreme court, coming into effect last week.

India's top court refuses to ban fireworks even as Delhi's pollution levels worsen

The Indian Supreme Court has rejected a petition that had sought a ban on the manufacture and sale of firecrackers across the country to curb air pollution.

UN estimates more than 7,200 migrants in caravan, deploys to Mexico to assist

As thousands of Central Americans advance on a massive trek towards the southern border of the United States, drawing ire from US president Donald Trump, the United Nations has deployed its personnel to the ground. 


UN Secretary General is asking countries to work with UN agencies as they assist migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala on the move through Mexico.

North and South Korea remove firearms from DMZ


North and South Korea, with the support of the United Nations, have agreed to remove all firearms and guard posts from the main village in the demilitarized zone. 

In a sign of improved relations there will also be a reduction in personnel deployed to the area.

Republican lawmakers criticise Trump plan to withdraw from missiles treaty with Russia

Saudi Foreign Minister: Crown Prince not involved in Khashoggi murder


Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister says Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was not involved in the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, calling his death a "tremendous mistake."

Australian government loses majority in a byelection delivering historic swing.

A by-election in the seat of Wentworth held by former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has delivered the biggest swing in Australia's political history and has landed the nation with its second minority government in just over eight years, with the ruling Liberals losing the seat they, and their predecessors have held since federation in 1901.

59 killed as train mows down spectators watching firework display

At least 59 people were killed and dozens injured, after a speeding train ran into a crowd watching fireworks during a religious festival in Amritsar, India.

The fireworks display was being held on a private property adjacent to the railway tracks. Many people reportedly moved onto the elevated train tracks to get a better look at show when the accident occurred.
