Puerto Rico increases death toll from Maria to 2975

Officials in Puerto Rico say nearly 3000 people died following Hurricane Maria.

The revised death toll from last September's storm is 2975, nearly 50 times the previous estimate of 64.

US ends suspension of military drills with South Korea

The United States says it will end its suspension of military drills on the Korean peninsula.

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said the suspension of drills was a "good faith" gesture but was not open-ended.

Thousands expected to gather to pay respects to Aretha Franklin

North Korea warns US in letter

UK PM May dismisses ‘no-deal Brexit’ warning

Man arrested for allegedly plotting to kill Indian Prime Minister

Police in India have arrested a Maoist leader in the city of Hyderabad for his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

Earlier this year, police officials had said they had allegedly recovered a letter at a Maoist sympathiser's house in New Delhi and that the letter referred to a plan to assassinate Prime Minister Modi.

UK PM Pledges Government investment in African Economies

On the UK Prime Minister's first official visit to the African continent, Theresa May has pledged plans for a new partnership with African nations to enable job creation.


Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa, the Prime Minister said that she wanted the UK to become the G7's biggest investor in Africa by 2022, and spoke of the importance of both government and private sector investment in the continent.


One of the biggest announcements was a 4billion pound (just over 5bn dollar) investment pledge in Africa

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's arrived in South Africa, promising Britain's investment in Africa will rise as it leaves the EU.

She'll also visit Nigeria and Kenya on her four day African tour.

Canadian negotiators due to rejoin NAFTA talks after U.S. and Mexico reach deal

Canadian negotiators are due to return to talks with their American and Mexican counterparts in a bid to renegotiate the 25 year-old North American Free Trade Agreement.

US President Donald Trump, a frequent critic of the existing pact, announced on Monday that the US and Mexico had reached a new deal after five weeks of bilateral discussions.

The final outcome for NAFTA remains in doubt with Canada, the third signatory, due to rejoin talks on Tuesday.

Trump backs down, will lower White House flag to honor McCain

President Trump has backed down and ordered the flag at the White House to be lowered once again in honor of Senator John McCain who died over the weekend.


The President caused a storm outrage by refusing to sign a proclamation that would have kept the flag at half mast.

U.S. announces new trade deal with Mexico

President Trump has announced that the US and Mexico have reached a new trade deal — one he says will replace the 1994 trade deal known as NAFTA or the North American Free Trade Agreement.
