Fires kill at least 60 in Greece

At least 60 people are dead after wildfires forced thousands of Greek residents and tourists to flee the area around Athens overnight.


The fires are responsible for injuring at least 156 people with many using rickety boats to try to escape by sea.

Indian government mulls anti-lynching law

In the backdrop of a sharp rise in lynching incidents across the country, the Indian government says it is willing to bring in a separate law that will help curb incidents of mob violence.

Australian cave divers honoured at a ceremony in Canberra

UK HEATWAVE TO INTENSIFY

In the UK, it's warned that temperatures are set to rise further this week - with Monday already the hottest day of the year so far.

Heat alerts are in place for much of the east and south east of England.

Several English locations have had no significant rainfall now for 54 days.

Parts of southern England have seen 6% of the normal rainfall levels expected during the summer period.

Alphabet smashes Wall St. estimates in Q2 earnings

Google's parent company Alphabet has released quarterly earnings that
far exceeded Wall Street expectations.

The tech giant posted net income for the 2nd quarter of $3.2 billion
sending the stock up over 5% in after-hour trading.

This is big win for the company after the European Union recently hit
Alphabet with a $5 billion fine for competition abuses.

to figures suggesting Alphabet has spent less on directing traffic to
its search engine.

Trump threatens to strip security clearance from critics

President Donald Trump is considering revoking the security clearances of former national security officials who have criticised him.

The White House named six former intelligence, law enforcement and national security chiefs who served during the Obama administration.

At least two dead after Toronto shooting

Two people have been killed and 12 others injured after a gunman opened fire on Sunday evening in Toronto.

The suspect - who authorities say was a 29-year-old male - exchanged gunfire with police officers and was later found dead nearby. The motive for the shooting is unclear.

Ozil quits German national team citing racism

One of Germany's top football players announced he is quitting the national team over the reaction to a photo he took with Turkey's president in the run-up to this year's World Cup.
