Trade War Escalates Between Washington and Beijing

The trade war between the United States and China has escalated, with the Trump administration imposing ten percent tariffs on another 200 billion dollars worth of Chinese imports.

There have now been several rounds of tariffs between Washington and Beijing, with Trump accusing China of unfairly taking US technology.

As our Washington correspoindent John Clarke reports, it's likely that China will now respond with more tariffs on US goods.

Trump Administration hits China with $200 Billion tariffs

The White House has released a list of another 200 billion dollars in Chinese goods to be hit with imports tariffs.

The import duties, which could come into effect in September, are set to intensify the trade war between the two sides

Judge grants more time for US gov’t to reunite kids with parents

A San Diego judge has granted the federal government additional time to reunite migrant children who they separated from their parents, saying some cases pose logistical challenges. 


Over two-thousand minors have been removed from their parents' custody at the US-Mexico border, as part of Trump's zero tolerance immigration policy — a policy he defended at the White House on Tuesday, saying that illegal immigrants simply ought to stay out of the US.

Ethiopia pushes new relations with Eritrea

Ethiopian Airlines has announced that it will resume flights to Eritrea in a week, for the first time in 20 years.

Ethiopia has also presented a formal request to the UN to lift sanctions against Eritrea which include an arms embargo.

These developments include a Joint declaration of Peace and Friendship signed between Ethiopia and Eritrea after 20 years of enmity.

UN accuses South Sudan of "war crime" atrocities

The United Nations has accused South Sudanese soldiers of "horrific
crimes", including killing more than 230 civilians and raping 120
women and girls.

Trump heads to Europe for Nato summit

President Trump said his summit with Vladimir Putin might be easier than meetings with Nato allies and the British Prime Minister.

NEW UK CABINET MEETS AMID BREXIT DIVISIONS

Theresa May's re-shuffled cabinet is meeting (Tuesday) as she tries to stabilise Britain's government amid a crisis over Brexit.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Brexit Secretary David Davis both resigned in under 24 hours over concerns about her Brexit strategy.

They've been replaced by Jeremy Hunt and Dominic Raab respectively.

Mrs May will now hope to head off a potential leadership challenge so she can continue negotiations on the terms of Britain's exit from the EU.

And she'll hope to do that on the basis of a Brexit plan agreed by the cabinet at her country residence of Chequers last week.

Indian court upholds death penalty for 2012 Delhi gang rape convicts

India's top court has dismissed a review petition filed by three of the four convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang rape case.

The case dates back to six years ago when a 23-year-old medical student was brutally gang-raped and repeatedly assaulted on a moving bus and then abandoned on the roadside.
