No takers for India's national carrier

The Indian government has confirmed that it received no bids for the purchase of a controlling stake in Air India.

The state-run Air India has been running in losses for nearly a decade now and any interested buyer also needs to take on the airline's $5 billion debt.

Lavrov invites Kim to Russia

Russia's Foreign Minister has invited the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia.

Sergei Lavrov expressed Moscow's support in ending years of tension over North Korea's nuclear program, during meetings in Pyongyang. 

North Korean news agencies have reported a possible summit between the two countries' leaders, to mark 70 years of diplomatic ties.

Camada and Mexico threaten tit-for-tat tariffs

U.S. allies have reacted furiously to the U.S. decision to impose
tariffs on steel and aluminium.

The 25% tariff on steel and 10% duty on aluminium will come into
effect on Friday.

The U.S. made this announcement in March and have been negotiating
with the European Union, Mexico and Canada.

Some nations around the world have been made exempt from the tariffs
but U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilber Ross says U.S. allies hadn't done
enough to receive such an exemption.

The Trump Administration says a global supply glut is a threat to
their national security.

Canada and Mexico have reacted strongly to the news.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says plans for a summit between the leaders of America and North Korea are "moving in the right direction." 

It comes after two days of meetings in New York with North Korean's Kim Yong Chol. 

The talks ended on a note of optimism, despite still no word whether the planned June 12th Summit in Singapore will take place.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says talks with North Korea are "moving in the right direction".

His comments come after two days of talks in New York with Kim Yong-chol, the most senior North Korean official to visit the US in almost 20 years.

European Court rules Romania and Lithuania violated ban on torture

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled Romania and Lithuania violated the European ban on torture by allowing the CIA to torture al-Qaeda suspects.

TRUMP/KIM SUMMIT TALKS CONTINUE IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

Talks are due to continue in New York on Thursday between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and General Kim Yong-chol of North Korea.

The two met on Wednesday to discuss a potential summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore next month.

The US says it wants the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula to be the aim of any summit between President Trump and Mr Kim.

A US team is thought to be in Singapore discussing logistics for the summit on June 12th with the North Koreans.

Talks are also taking place at the border between North and South Korea.

And Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is in Pyongyang, saying he wants a better understanding of North Korea's position.

Indian city runs dry
