IMF / WORLD BANK MEETINGS OPEN AMID TRADE FEARS

The prospect of a growing trade row between the US and China is the backdrop for the spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank, which are getting underway in Washington.

International Monetary Fund boss Christine Lagarde has warned of 'darker clouds looming' for the global economy heading into the meetings.

She's warned of the risk the current world trading system could be 'torn apart' amid rising protectionism and Washington and Beijing at odds.

US Companies Banned from Selling Components to Chinese Smartphone Maker ZTE


The US Department of Commerce has banned US companies  from selling components to the leading Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE. 
That's a significant blow to ZTE. American companies provide an estimated 25 to 30 percent of the components used in ZTE's equipment, which includes networking gear and smartphones.

Black men arrested at Starbucks agree to meet with CEO

Two African-African men arrested at Starbucks last week have agreed to meet with the CEO of the coffee giant.

The two men were arrested in Philadelphia after a store manager called the police on them, while they were simply sitting in the cafe.

UK Prime Minister Defends Syria Air Strikes

The British Prime Minister Theresa May has been explaining her government's actions and decision behind launching airstrikes on Syria, alongside French and US coalition forces,  in response to the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime.


The move has caused outrage in the UK, as MPs were not given the opportunity to vote on whether to carry out military action.

NASA to launch planet hunting satellite

A satellite capable of detecting planets that may be able to support life will launch later [23:32GMT Monday] from Cape Canaveral.

The 337-million dollar Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, will search for thousands of so-called exoplanets orbiting other stars, with the hope of finding the potential for life outside our solar system.

Thousands protest the rape of an 8-year-old in India

The rape and murder of a minor has sparked off widespread protests across India. The parents of the victim are now under state protection, as the case proceeds to the Indian Supreme Court.

She was allegedly drugged, starved and repeatedly raped by several men for three days before she was strangled to death. Police records claim that she would have been killed sooner had one of the men not insisted on raping her one last time.

UK Prime Minister To Face Questions Over Syria Strike

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is facing questions in the British Parliament today about her decision to authorise air strikes against the Syrian government on Saturday.


Some MPs are up in arms over the fact that no vote on the military action was given to Parliament, with the opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn calling for laws to be changed to ensure future interventions require a debate and vote before going ahead.


The air strikes were part of a joint effort between the UK, US and France, targeting sites near Damascus and Homs in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack on Douma which is said to have taken place on April 7th.


Shadow Justice Secretary Richard Burgdon has voiced concerns over the Prime Minister's decision.

PENCE: 'Absolutely mission accomplished', high confidence Assad used chemical weapons


The U.S. Vice President has joined a chorus of approval from the Trump administration over the allied strikes against Syria's chemical weapons infrastructure.

Three separate sites were targeted by over 100 cruise missiles launched by the US, France and the UK, early Saturday morning.

The mission was in response to last week's suspected poison-gas attack on a rebel-held suburb.

Mike Pence, was filling in for President Trump  at the Summit of the Americas in Lima, said the mission was a success but stressed America's primary goal in Syria remains the defeat of ISIS...
