500 people affected by suspected chemical weapons attack

The World Health Organisation says that 500 people in Eastern Ghouta in Syria are showing signs consistent with exposure to toxic chemicals, as the US prepares its response to a suspected chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime. But as Dan Ashby reports, in London, the question is whether the UK will follow.

Facebook to go on a hiring spree ahead of 2019 elections in India

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the social media giant is taking steps to ensure that the integrity of the upcoming general elections in India is maintained.

Russia warns the US against military action in Syria

Russia is warning the US against taking military action in Syria saying there could be the threshold for some "very sad and serious events."

Washington is understood to be considering conducting military operations in response to the alleged chemical attack at the weekend which it blames on the Syrian government.

UN votes down 3 Syria resolutions

Members of the United Nations Security Council have voted down three Syria chemical weapons resolution. 

They included two rival proposals to create a new team to investigate chemical weapon claims in Syria.

Facebook CEO testifies before US Senate

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has testified before a Senate committee, where he said his firm is stepping up its battle against Russia and other influential global players that have been misrepresenting themselves on the social media network.

The hearing was called in response to the recently-revealed leak of massive quantities of Facebook data to the British-based data-mining firm Cambridge Analytica.

Hollywood director will not be charged for sex crimes

The Hollywood director, James Toback, will not be charged with sexual abuse.

Prosecutors say it's because the time allowed to bring charges against

Pentagon releases details on Nat’l Guard border deployment

British PM confers with allies over Syria

British Prime Minister Theresa May has held talks with US President Donald Trump and French leader Emmanual Macron as the international community considers its response to the alleged chemical attack on the Syrian city of Douma. 


Earlier the British leader chaired a meeting of her senior security advisors at Downing Street.  It comes as the US has said it would not rule out military action. 


Russia has denied Syrian leader Bashar al Assad used chemical weapons on his own people following the attack at the weekend which saw the deaths of at least 60 people.

Yulia Skripal discharged from hospital to secure location

The daughter of a former Russian spy who was poisoned by a nerve agent alongside her father in the British city of Salisbury has been discharged from hospital. 

33 year old Yulia Skripal has been moved to a secure location more than five weeks after she and her father Sergei were poisoned by a nerve agent.    They were exposed to the toxic nerve agent Novichok and found slumped on a park bench in the centre of Salisbury on the 4th March. 

66 year old Sergei Skripal remains in hospital but his condition is "improving rapidly".

Christine Blanshard, medical director of Salisbury Hospital, said both Ms Skripal, and her father, have received "round-the-clock" care.
