“House of horrors” children released from hospital

The 13 children of David and Louise Turpin have been rehomed - after
undergoing treatment in hospital.

The Californian couple are accused of holding their children captive
and torturing 12 of them.

124 million people in 51 countries face food insecurity - UN food crisis report

One hundred and twenty-four million people in 51 countries are severely hungry, facing food crises largely due to conflict and insecurity, according to a new UN-backed report.

First evacuations from Syria's Eastern Ghouta

Syrian opposition fighters and civilians have been evacuated from the besieged area of Eastern Ghouta.

Aid agencies helped to bus out some 600 fighters and one and a half thousands civilians.

The United Nations has welcomed the news, but is urging the Syrian government to allow the complete evacuation of the Damascus suburb.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said more help was needed.

British police officer injured in spy poisoning case released from hospital


A British police officer who became seriously ill after being exposed to the nerve agent that targeted a former Russian spy and his daughter in Salisbury has been released from hospital. 


Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey was one of the first people to respond to the incident on 4th March when Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found in an unconscious state.   


In an update from Salisbury hospital, the pair were described as remaining in a critical but stable conditioon.   


Earlier a UK court ruled blood samples can be taken from them at the request of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons which is investigating the incident.  The court ruling said the Skripals are unable to communicate and added it was not possible to say when or to what extent either may regain mental capacity.

Police release video of Uber fatal collision with pedestrian

Police in the US state of Arizona have released a partial video of the fatal collision between an Uber self-driving vehicle and a pedestrian.

The car was going three miles over the speed limit and did not brake before hitting the pedestrian.

But, the police chief in Tempe, Arizona says the preliminary investigation shows no fault by the ride-sharing service.

Russian Ambassdor to UK says Johnson Nazi comments "unacceptable and irresponsible"

Russia's Ambassador to the UK  has called the comments of British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson that compared Russia to Nazi Germany "unacceptable and irresponsible". 

The remarks of Alexander Yakovenko came after Mr Johnson likened the public relations gains to Russian President  Vladimir Putin from hosting the upcoming Football World Cup to Adolf Hitler's use of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.


Mr Yakovenko said the UK had blamed Russia for the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury without any evidence, adding that is something his country cannot accept.

UK marks one year anniversary of Westminster terror attack


Britain is marking the one year anniversary of the first of a wave of terror attacks to hit London and Manchester in 2017,  with services of remembrance. 

It was on this day last year that Khalid Masood drove a van onto the pavement on Westminster Bridge to target pedestrians before stabbing a police officer to death at the entrance to the parliament.   Five people were killed before Masood was shot by police.

Eleven "cow vigilantes" jailed for life for beating meat trader to death
