On International Women's Day the United Nations has held events to
celebrate and highlight the work of women in rural communities.

These women are often the backbone of economies outside urban centers
around the world.

But they are still not treated equally, with many facing
discrimination, prejudice and even sexual violence.

US pushes UN arms embargo on South Sudan

The United States is urging the United Nations to impose an arms
embargo on South Sudan, following more than four years of civil war.

The US wants the UN Security Council to vote on the proposal next week.

South Korean officials to discuss North Korea with Trump officials

Two envoys from South Korea are meeting with U.S. President Donald
Trump's National Security Advisor to discuss a recent meeting held
with the leader of North Korea.

President Trump poised to implement strict tariffs

US President Donald Trump is expected to sign a plan on Thursday to introduce strict tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

But the White House now says some countries - including Canada and Mexico - could be exempt from the plan on national security grounds.

Rudd: Spy attack with nerve agent "brazen and reckless” act.



British Home Secretary has called the attempted murder of a former Russian spy and his daughter in Salisbury a "brazen and reckless" act. 


In a statement to the House of Commons, Amber Rudd said Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia remain unconscious and in a critical condition in Salisbury hospital.


The former Russian military intelligence officer and his daughter were poisoned by a nerve agent on Sunday.  


Amber Rudd said police have launched a wide ranging investigation to find those responsible and early speculation is not helpful.

Indian architect wins Balkrishna Doshi wins prestigious Pritzker prize

Architect Balkrishna Doshi has become the first Indian to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize, widely considered to be the highest award in the field.

Hundreds of UK police officers are investigating after it was revealed a nerve agent was used to attack a former Russian spy and his daughter.

California Governor Says US Atty Gen'l Launching Reign of Terror Against California


California's Governor has accused the US Attorney General of initiating a reign of terror against immigrants in California.

Florida School Shooter suspect indicted on 17 counts of murder

The suspect in last month's deadly Florida school shooting has been
formally charged.

17 students and staff were killed and at least a dozen more injured at
a high school in Parkland.

Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of first degree murder.

US Justice Dept Sues State of California

The US Justice Department is suing the state of California over its sanctuary policies.

UK police say a nerve agent was used to target a former Russian spy and his daughter on Sunday.


66 year old Sergei Skripal and his 33 year old daughter Yulia  remain in a critical condition in hospital.   A police officer who was among the first to respond when the couple were found unresponsive in the city of Salisbury is also in a serious condition in hospital. 


Police say they do not believe there is any widespread risk to the public. 


Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Mark Rowley said authorities had identified the nerve agent used but would not be making that information public.   He said it was now being treated as a major incident involving attempted murder by the use of a nerve agent.

Jail terms for German far-right group members
