LIAM FOX: CUSTOMS UNION WOULD 'BETRAY' BREXIT VOTE

The UK government says a customs union with the EU after Brexit would harm the national interest and tie its hands on international trade deals.

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox has been setting out the case against a customs union - a day after opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he'd plan to negotiate one with the EU.

Critics of the government say the lack of a customs union would mean the prospect of a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

But Liam Fox insists a customs union would make it impossible to negotiate international trade deals.

The UK is facing major disruption from heavy snowfall and freezing conditions.
