UN meet to discuss crisis in Myanmar

The United Nations has held a meeting to discuss the continuing crisis
in Myanmar.

Eight of the 15 Security Council members requested this meeting that
focused strongly on the repatriation effort of Rohingya refugees from
Bangladesh to Myanmar.

The UN say conditions on the ground aren't suitable for their return
but warn that monsoon rains pose a serious threat to thousands of
refugees.

India's Bank of Baroda to exit South Africa

Indian bank- the Bank of Baroda that has been linked to the Gupta brothers has announced its plans to exit South Africa.

The bank's representatives in India have said that the reason for the exit is because the bank wants to rationalise its 100 odd overseas branches.

Just a few weeks ago, the Bank had said it was cooperating with South African officials for probe into its compliance lapses.

Trial begins for 1976 French bank heist 'mastermind'

The alleged mastermind of an audacious bank heist has gone on trial in France, nearly half a century after the crime was committed. 

The gangster wrote about the robbery eight years ago under an assumed name, but now prosecutors are trying him for money laundering.

INQUIRY STARTS INTO OXFAM SEX SCANDAL

The UK's Charity Commission is starting an inquiry into the handling of a sex scandal in Haiti by charity Oxfam.

It's claimed Oxfam knew of concerns relating to the use of prostitutes by aid workers in Haiti in 2011.

And now a whistleblower claims she resigned from the charity after passing on claims of child abuse in Oxfam shops and allegations of sexual exploitation of aid beneficiaries.

The UK government's threatened to cut funding to Oxfam if it can't account for how it handled claims of sexual misconduct.

Commonwealth to reportedly discuss who should be head after British Queen passes


The Commonwealth is reported to be secretly considering who might succeed Britain's Queen Elizabeth the Second after her death.

UK GOVT UNVEILS TOOL TO TACKLE ONLINE EXTREMISM

The UK has produced a tool it says can find jihadist content online and block anyone from viewing it.

It's been developed by an artificial intelligence company in London, with government funding.

Thousands of hours of content from the Islamic State has been put through the tool to teach it to spot extremist material.

The UK government says it won't rule out forcing tech companies to use it.

Cyclone Gita belts Tonga flattening Parliament House

Tonga has been belted by Cyclone Gita flattening the Parliament building and causing extensive damage.
With destructive winds of 230 kilometres per hour, the category four Cyclone ripped roofs from houses, brought down trees and caused widespread flooding.
Graham Kenna from Tonga's National Emergency Management Office told Australia's ABC radio that they haven't been able to confirm any fatalities as yet.

Vanessa Trump in hospital for evaluation after opening letter containing white powder

The wife of Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. has been taken to hospital after opening an envelop containing an unknown white powder.

Trump unveils plan to fix "crumbling" US infrastructure

President Trump has unveiled his long-promised plan for a revamp of what he's called "crumbling" US infrastructure.

He wants Congress to authorise 200 billion dollars over a decade which he hopes will stimulate another 1.3 trillion dollars in improvements.
