More refugees from Manus island and Nauru headed to the US for resettlement

A second group of refugees that were accepted for resettlement in the United States has departed Australia's offshore detention centres.
Fifty eight refugees are flying from Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea to New York, joining 54 who have already arrived in the US from Manus Island and Nauru.

U.S. government shutdown comes to an end [CLIPS]

The United States government shutdown has come to an end after three days.

President Trump signed a bill that temporarily extends funding for the
government until February 8th.

Off the back of several days of negotiations the U.S. Senate passed
the measure after Republicans promised to debate the topic of
immigration.

After the Senate passed the bill it was then sent to the House before
it could hit the President's desk.

The shutdown meant that hundreds of thousands of federal employees
were placed on leave without pay. House Speaker Paul Ryan says the

French UN ambassador calls on Turkey for restraint over Syria, presses for immediate aid access

Two days after Turkey's military pushed into northern Syria in an offensive against the Syrian Kurdish militia, the United Nations Security Council met behind closed doors Monday to discuss the latest developments.


France had called earlier for an emergency session over concerns that Turkey's latest move could further escalate tensions.


Speaking to journalists afterwards, the French ambassador Francois Delattre said he had underscored France's position to the 15-member body.

US urges Turkey to limit Syria campaign

The U.S. is urging Turkey to limit its operations around Afrin.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed that Afrin would be sorted out, and they will not step back.

Turkish forces are trying to oust Syrians with strong ties to the Kurds from the area, as concerns remain about the Kurds goals of an independent Kurdish state.

Senate Reaches Deal to End Shutdown

The US Senate is voting to end the government shutdown after reaching a compromise deal on the issue of immigration.

Democrats have withheld their approval for the latest short-term budget resolution over concern for so-called 'dreamers'.

India Leads on Surging Global Growth Forecasts

Rex Tillerson hails 'treasured' US relationship with UK on visit to London

The US Secretary of State has visited the new American embassy in London, just days after Donald Trump cancelled a trip to Britain citing anger over the building.

Rex Tillerson met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and with Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, to discuss security and the Iran nuclear deal.

Income inequality in India widens

UK Independence Party chief under mounting pressure to quit

The head of the UK Independence Party is facing growing pressure to resign after several senior figures in the pro-Brexit party stepped down over his refusal to quit. 

Henry Bolton lost a vote of no confidence after it emerged his now ex-girlfriend sent racist messages about Prince Harry's finance Meghan Markle. 

Ukip's immigration spokesman John Bickley is one of the latest party officials to resign and called on Bolton to do the same ahead of an emergency party meeting next month.
