Republicans blame Senate Democrats for shutdown threat

Republican lawmakers are trying to lay the blame for the looming shutdown of the U.S government on Senate Democrats.

The spending plan for the U.S. government ends at midnight Washington time on January 19.

U.S. President Donald Trump thinks a shutdown very well may happen, while legislation to keep the government running through February 16 is making its way through the U.S. Congress.

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan is placing the blame for the political impasse on the Senate Democrats.

The Senate Democrats have tried to include solutions to other political problems with looming deadlines including funding for children's health care and DACA - defered action for childhood arrivals - which expires March 5. 

On the Senate floor, Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Senate Democrats, blamed mixed messages and White House chaos for the inability to reach a deal.

Tillerson to visit London and perhaps new embassy

This comes after President Donald Trump cancelled a trip to London to

UK TO OFFER MACRON CHANNEL SECURITY BOOST

The UK government is promising to spend an extra £44.5m / $60m on boosting Channel border security.

The announcement comes as French President Emmanuel Macron visits the UK for talks with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Tillerson outlines US strategy on Syria

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says US troops will remain in Syria after their fight against Isis.

In a speech at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, Mr Tillerson said the US would maintain a presence in the country to ensure neither Iran or President Assad of Syria could take over newly liberated areas.

Victims of USA Gymnastics doctor give shocking accounts of abuse in Michigan court


The victims of Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor who has plead guilty to molesting dozens of girls, have been giving shocking accounts of abuse during a sentencing hearing in the US state of Michigan.

5 Indian men gored to death in bull-taming sport

In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, 5 spectators at a bull taming festival have been killed after charging bulls broke into the crowd.

The bull taming festival, believed to be over 2000 years old, was banned by India's highest court in 2014 on grounds of animal cruelty. 

The Indian government later lifted that ban following massive protests by locals.
