US Navy officers involved in deadly collisions facing military criminal charges


The commanding officers of two US Navy ships involved in collisions in the Pacific Ocean last year are facing military criminal charges.

17 sailors were killed in two separate incidents involving US warships in Asian waters in 2017.

Former CIA officer arrested for giving secrets to Chinese

A naturalized American citizen who used to work for the CIA has been arrested for passing secrets to the Chinese.

 Jerry Chun Shing Lee was living and working in Hong Kong, but travelled to New York where he was arrested.

5 Indian men gored to death in bull-taming sport

In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, 5 spectators at a bull taming festival have been killed after charging bulls broke into the crowd.

The bull taming festival, believed to be over 2000 years old, was banned by India's highest court in 2014 on grounds of animal cruelty. 

The Indian government later lifted that ban following massive protests by locals.

Charles Puidgemont gets backing to resume position and president of Catalonia despite exile in Brussels

The two main parties in the recently elected parliament in Catalonia have promised they will keep former leader Carles Puigdemont (kar -lez poo -szh - de - mon) as president.

HUNDREDS STRANDED IN UK SNOW

Hundreds of drivers have spent a night stranded in their cars after heavy snow in Scotland.

Mountain rescue teams have been helping people stuck on roads in Dumfries and Galloway.

Parents held on suspicion of torture in California

The parents of 13 siblings, who were found chained to their beds in
Southern California, are being held on suspicion of torture.

David and Louise Turpin were taken into custody after one of the
children escaped and notified police.

US Justice Dep't appeals judge's ruling on DACA

The U.S. Justice Department says it will take the rare step of asking the Supreme Court to reverse a recent decision by a federal judge to block President Trump's decision to end DACA, the Obama-era program that allows young, undocumented immigrants to remain in the country.

Venezuelan gov’t confirms death of alleged terrorist

The Venezuelan Government has confirmed the death of former police pilot and intelligence officer Óscar Pérez, whom President Maduro had accused of being a terrorist.

White House pushes merit-based immigration

The White House is pushing changing to a merit-based immigration program, as the political impasse remains unchanged over continued funding for the U.S. government versus key policies concerning immigrants.

The Democrats want a deal on DACA - the young people brought to the U.S. by their parents but without proper documentation and they feel it must be tied to the funding proposals.

The negotiations have been complicated by the president's use of crass and vulgar language.

U.S. withholds $65 million in funding to UN Palestinian refugee agency

The United States has announced it's withholding over half of its
funding to the United Nations relief agency for Palestinians.

This comes days after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he
wouldn't accept any peace plan put forward by the United States.

Senator Lindsey Graham believes someone on the White House staff is to blame for the impasse over immigration reform and President Donald Trump's vulgar comments, which have put Washington on a path to a government shutdown.
