May says there will be no hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland

Embattled British Prime Minister Theresa May has insisted there will be no hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland following the stalling of Brexit negotiations over this issue.

On Monday Theresa May left EU officials in Brussels with no breakthrough on talks, despite preparations for an announcement on both sides.  It came after the Conservative's ruling partners, Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party said they could not accept that Northern Ireland would leave the European Union on different terms to the rest of the UK.

As a member of the EU, Ireland insists it cannot return to a hard border with Northern Ireland,  a prospect that is thought to threaten Northern Ireland's peace process.

Last minute negotiations are now on-going with the DUP.

The British leader was taunted by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn over the apparent diplomatic drama.

Johnson voices concern over Trump's planned Jerusalem announcement

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson says he is concerned about reports that U.S. President Donald Trump is set to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Mr Trump is expected to announce the controversial change in US foreign policy in a speech later, when he is also due to say the US embassy will move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, although not for several years.

Countries including Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have joined with the Palestinians in warning the move will jeopardize any Middle East Peace Process.    Jerusalem is home to key religious sites important to Judaism, Islam and Christianity and both Israel and the Palestinians claim it as their capital.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson says any such announcement would not be helpful.
