UN calls for calm following Mugabe resignation

The United Nations has urged for calm in Zimbabwe following the
resignation of President Robert Mugabe.

The UN has made similar calls over the last week during the period of
uncertainty in the country.

UN spokesman Farhan Haq spoke to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.

Mugabe Resigns After 37 Years in Power

Robert Mugabe has resigned as president of Zimbabwe after 37 years in power.

His decision which made via a letter and announced by the speaker of parliament following a military takeover last week.

The ousted Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to become interim president.

Nick Mangwana a representative in London for the ruling party Zanu-PF says they will not suspend the constitution and will organize democratic elections within the next ten months....

UN condemns threats against investigators

The United Nations has condemned threats against its investigators
allegedly made by the Philippines President and by senior officials in
Burundi.

General who led military takeover in Zimbabwe is under US & EU sanctions

With the resignation of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, the man who led the military takeover is being hailed as a political saviour by many.

But General Constantine Chiwenga is under sanctions from the European Union and the US.

Meanwhile the US Embassy in the capital, Harare, described it as an "historic moment" and congratulated Zimbabweans who "raised their voices and stated peacefully and clearly that the time for change was overdue"

US diplomats accuse Sec. Tillerson of violating law - Reuters

About a dozen American diplomats have formally accused U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of violating the law on child soldiers, Reuters reports.

Indian government to bring in a law against instant verbal divorce

The Indian government is likely to introduce a law in Parliament soon that will make instant verbal divorce illegal.

Earlier this year, India's highest court had deemed the practice unconstitutional and outlawed it.

However, many Muslim women claim that they are still being divorced by their husbands through text and WhatsApp messages.

AT&T pushes back as Justice Dept. sues to stop Time-Warner deal

AT&T says the anti-trust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department defies logic.

The U.S. Justice Department says the deal for AT&T and Time Warner to merge, valued at between $85 and $108 billion, will mean higher prices for consumers and less competition.

However, there are suspicions U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to force the spin-off of CNN from Time Warner, to some how undermine the 24-hour-news channel he calls "fake news."
