Refugees in mortal danger as Australian detention centre on Manus Island closes

Refugees refusing to leave Australia's now closed Manus Island detention
centre have been forced to endure a restless night fearful of attack and
with little power or water.
More than 600 refugees and asylum seekers remained inside the facility
in Papua New Guinea's Lombrum Navy Base overnight, many too scared to
venture out.
The group made an eleventh-hour bid in the PNG Supreme Court to prevent
the centre's scheduled closure on Tuesday night.
Senator Nick McKim told Australia's ABC that Electricity had been cut to
two buildings by early evening while some of those holed up were doing
what they could to guard against dehydration.
