Spain Asks Catalonia for Clarification

Spain's prime minister is asking for clarification from the president of Catalonia.

The Catalan President made a declaration of independence—but then said he wouldn't enact it to leave room for talks with Madrid.

Hammond urges Brexit spending caution

Britain's Finance Minister says the country should not spend money preparing for a no-deal Brexit as that would not be responsible.     This comes after Prime Minister Theresa May said the government is preparing for the prospect that it would  not be able to agree a trade deal with the European Union earlier this week.  

Quizzed about this by fellow MP's, Philip Hammond stressed the importance of avoiding a no-deal end to the divorce negotiations with the EU and said spending money now was the wrong thing to do.

Greece votes to allow people to change gender without surgery

People in Greece will now be able to change their gender without undergoing a medical operation.

The parliament in Athens has approved the measure despite a concerns from the rightwing opposition.

Moscow warns against escalation of tensions around Korea

Russia says escalation of tension around the Korea peninsula is unacceptable. Moscow indicated earlier Pyongyang's missiles would be able to reach U.S. ground after modernization. Madrid Rejects Catalonia's Calls for Mediation

Madrid is rejecting calls for mediation coming from the Spanish region of Catalonia. 

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy will be holing an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss how to move forward as Catalan leaders continue to push for eventual independence.

India aims to attract $300 billion of investment into its energy sector

Indian court makes intercourse with minor wife illegal

The Indian Supreme Court has said that intercourse with a minor wife will amount to rape.

While child marriage in India is illegal, the Indian law provides protection to a husband who has intercourse with a minor wife.

So difficult to renegotiate - Trump on NAFTA

Global trade and politics intruded on what was supposed to be a photo op with the Stanley Cup hockey champions, with U.S. President Donald Trump saying NAFTA is so hard to renegotiate.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected at the White House as another round of talks on NAFTA gets underway in Washington.

Local chambers of commerce have urged the White House to tread carefully and first, 'do no harm' in the talks.

Disaster declaration for California

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an order declaring a federal disaster for California, following the wildfires tearing across the famed wine country.

At least 15 people are confirmed dead with more than 2000 homes destroyed as well as wineries.

White House pushes back after questions about Pres. competence

The White House is pushing back after a series of reports questioning U.S. President Donald Trump's competence for holding office and carrying out his duties.

Last week, U.S. Secretary  of State Rex Tillerson failed to take advantage of an opportunity to deny he'd called Donald Trump a moron, and followed up by U.S. Senator Bob Corker, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Comittee, saying key administration officials are keeping the government from the chaos caused by the president.

Now, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders insists everything is fine, no matter what Senator Corker says.

White House insists NFL players must stand during national anthem

The Trump administration is not giving up on it's strategy to keep pushing the theme, professional athletes must stand during the playing of the national anthem.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media that tax laws should be changed, asking "Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country?"

The National Football league gave up its not-for-profit status, and any tax breaks to support stadiums are from municipalities and states.

Catalan's President Opens to Door for Dialogue with Madrid

Trump administration repeals Clean Power Plan

The Trump administration plans to scrap a clean energy plan introduced under former President Barack Obama.

The US Environmental Protection Agency will repeal the Clean Power Plan - which was designed to reduce greenhous gas emissions from power plants. US officials say repealing it will save money in compliance costs.

Environmental groups say the move adds to uncertainty for generators wanting to invest in renewable energy.

Catalonia takes steps toward independence

Carles Puigdemont, the president of Catalonia, says his people have won the right to independence following the October 1 referendum.

IMF Sees Global Recovery Continuing

The global economy is on a real upswing, according to the International Monetary Fund, which has increased this year's growth forecast to 3.6% and next year's to 3.7%. 

The upward revision reflects stronger growth in Europe, the United States and Japan and a partial recovery by some major energy exporters, like Russia and Brazil.

Pres. Trump says he hasn't undercut his cabinet

U.S. President Donald Trump is denying he's undercut his cabinet, adding that he has confidence in U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Last week, Secretary Tillerson was asked point blank whether he'd called Donald Trump a moron, and would only say he doesn't participate in such petty stuff.

Earlier, President Trump told Secretary Tillerson via twitter to not waste his time on North Korea talks, ratcheting up the rhetoric suggesting there's only one thing Pyongyang will listen to.
