Challenge of rebuilding post Irma - Amb. from Antigua & Barbuda

The tiny Caribbean country of Antigua and Barbuda faces an immense rebuilding challenge after the island of Barbuda was utterly destroyed.

The relief and recovery efforts are continuing, as Hurricane Irma devolves into a large windy rain storm affecting much of the east of the United States.

Sir Ronald Sanders, the ambassador of Antiqua and Barbuda to the United States says Barbuda basically doesn't exist.

MASSIVE 'FATBERG' DISCOVERED IN LONDON SEWER

A so-called 'fatberg' of fat, nappies, wet wipes, condoms and other waste has been found blocking a sewer in London.

UK Government reassures MPs over 'sweeping powers' in EU Withdrawal Bill


British Politicians are seeking reassurances from the UK Government that it will limit the 'sweeping powers' included in its EU Withdrawal Bill.


The Bill converts all EU law into UK law as the country prepares for Brexit, it was backed by 326 votes to 290 in Parliament, indicating concerns that it amounts to a 'power grab' by the Government

Australia's Same sex marriage survey is underway

The same sex marriage debate is moving in to full swing in Australia with the potential for Yes and No campaigners in the same-sex marriage survey to face fines or jail if their material includes hate speech.

RSC Founder Sir Peter Hall dies at 86

The founder of the UK's Royal Shakespeare Company, Sir Peter Hall has died at the age of 86. 

The man many refer to as the godfather of British theatre had been diagnosed with dementia in 2011.

Millions of households in the US state of Florida remain without power as a massive relief operation continues after Hurricane Irma.

Many residents who evacuated are being advised not to return to their homes yet.

The Florida Keys are still cut off from the mainland - with reports suggesting as many as 10 000 people decided to ride out the storm there.

At least 4 deaths have been reported in the state already after Irma battered Florida.

These people are waiting to drive back to their homes on the Florida Keys.

UN imposes tough new North Korea sanctions

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted a new set
of sanctions against North Korea, it's toughest to date.

The export of textiles is now banned, along with the import of natural

Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has accused the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights of lying.

Iran implementing JCPOA - IAEA chief

Florida still seeing effects of Hurricane Irma

Florida officials are beginning to assess how much damage Hurricane Irma did, with reports of flooding in Jacksonville in the north east corner of the state.

There's been less damage than expected reported for some cities, but there are thousands of trees and power lines down.

Flooding reported as Irma heads north into central U.S.

Flooding is reported in Jacksonville, Florida in the north-west corner of the state as the hurricane now tropical depression storm Irma heads into South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

Local officials in southern Florida - especially Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Naples - are beginning to assess the damage caused by the storm, with a current death toll of four.

Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert told reporters at the White House, with flooding in Jacksonville, the focus is still on rescues.

US condemns Myanmar violence against Rohingya

The Trump administration is condemning the violence in Myanmar which has prompted more than 300,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee to neighboring Bangladesh.

The United Nations has described the situation as a text book example of ethnic cleansing.
