Trump Intends to Visit Hurricane Disaster Area

At least eight people have been killed in Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.  

Efforts are continuing to rescue those impacted by massive flooding in the city of Houston and multiple other locations in the state.

The flooding risk is also spreading into neighboring Louisiana.

President Donald Trump has decided to visit the disaster area on Tuesday.

He may also undertake a follow-up next Saturday.

30 migrants arrested after coming through underground tunnel on US-Mexico border

US immigration agents have arrested 30 undocumented migrants after
discovering a tunnel running underground from Mexico into the US.

US Border Patrol agents say that the newly-discovered passageway near
San Diego, California could be linked to a broader trafficking network
recently discovered by authorities in Mexico.

UN envoy regrets death of US reporter in South Sudan, calls on all sides to respect freedom of press

The United Nations special envoy to South Sudan has expressed regret over the death of American journalist Christopher Allen, who was killed Saturday in clashes between government and opposition forces. 


UN envoy David Shearer said attacks on journalists are unacceptable and called on all parties involved in the fighting to respect freedom of the press.

Violence Breaks Out at Berkeley "Rally Against Hate"

More than a dozen people were arrested after a mass protest opposing a right wing rally turned violent in Berkeley California on Sunday.
The protest  drew thousands of people chasing anti fascist slogans and denouncing white supremacists.

Brexit talks in Brussels are off to a sour start.

The European Union's chief negotiator Michel Barnier says it's time these talks get serious.

He's accusing the UK of not providing specific solutions and stances to key issues.

That includes how to what to do along the border in Ireland, the status of EU citizens living in the UK and how much money the UK will owe the EU once it leaves.

While the UK hopes to start trade talks with the EU as it continues to hammer out these issues, but Mr. Barnier says divorce issues must be settled first.

10 years in jail for Indian godman convicted of rape

The Indian godman who has been convicted of raping two women in 2002 has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

His counsel says they will appeal the quantum in the High Court next. Ahead of the hearing, security in the states of Haryana and Punjab had been stepped up. Despite that, two instances of arson have already been reported.
