VP Pence denies he's considering 2020 bid for presidency

US Vice President Mike Pence has issued a strong denial he's preparing for a presidential run in 2020, amid rumours his advisers have been courting party donors.

The New York Times reported that some Republicans were moving to form a "shadow campaign" as though President Donald Trump were not involved.

Sec. Tillerson to ASEAN, Asia

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is in Asia for ASEAN foreign minister meetings.

US Marines missing following aircraft mishap off Queensland coast

In Australia, a search and rescue operation is under way off the State of Queensland coast for three marines who are missing after a US military plane crashed into the sea.
The plane, an MV-22 Osprey, was carrying 26 personnel including crew when it crashed on Saturday afternoon off the central Queensland coast at Shoalwater Bay.

UN unanimously approves new North Korea sanctions

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved
additional sanctions against North Korea, in response to its two
intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July.

The resolution aims to strip North Korea's export revenue by a third.

Fight against Islamic State advances in Raqqa

The U.S. is confirming the fight against the Islamic State in Raqqa Syria is advancing.

The Trump adminstration is emphasizing that it's job is to support efforts to retake ground from the Islamic State and secure the region, but not to rebuild Syria or Iraq.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions says the Justice Department is stepping up it's efforts to investigate and prosecute leaks of classified materials.

IOC defends its stance on Russia while IAAF extends ban over doping

Despite criticism, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) defended its stance on Russia's doping case ahead of the World Athletics Championships. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) extended suspension of Russia's team but let some athletes compete as neutrals. U.S. could widen North Korea sanctions discussions at UN

Citing diplomats the Reuters news agency report that the United States
could soon include the entire 15 member United Nations Security
Council in talks over potential new sanctions on North Korea.

Since a missile test on July 4th the U.S. and China have been
discussing whether to slap Pyongyang with harsher sanctions.

US ban on visiting North Korea triggers angry reaction


North Korea has slammed the United States for banning its citizens from travelling to the country.

This week the State Department announced US passport holders will not be allowed to visit North Korea from 1st September onwards.

US Police closing in on wanted Oxford University treasurer

US police say they are closing in on an Oxford University treasurer and an American Professor, who are thought to be on the run following the murder of a 26 year old man.

Australian Police : More Information on Airplane Plot


Police in Australia are revealing more information about an uncovered plot to plant an explosive device on an airplane.


Several arrests were made on Saturday relating to the investigation, meanwhile it has been discovered that the men alleged to have been involved had attempted to make a bomb that would emit a toxic gas.


It's also understood that the terror suspect had tried to smuggle a bomb onto a plane in July, by planting it on his unsuspecting brother.


Michael Phelan from Australia's Federal Police gave more details about the charges against the accused.

RBS announced profit for first half of 2017


The Royal Bank of Scotland  has announced it has returned to profit in the first half of 2017, despite incurring legal costs over miss-selling US mortgage products.


It's a big turnaround from the billion dollar loss incurred in the first half of last year.


RBS also said it was in conversation with Dutch authorities over moving its headquarters to Amsterdam in the wake of Brexit.


However Finance Expert David Bewick says RBS's first half results have to bee seen in the wider context.

Grenfell Tower Residents Written Submissions Ahead of Inquiry

The deadline for local residents to submit suggestions following the huge fire at London's Grenfell Tower, in which it's believed more than 80 people lost their lives, runs out on Monday.


Hundreds have already been received, which will contribute to a public inquiry into the blaze.
