US 'alarmed' by deteriorating Venezuela situation

The U.S. State Department is alarmed by the arrests of two opposition leaders in Venezuela, and hoping that a path can be found to return that country to normal government and democracy.

The United Nations has spoken out, with the High Commissioner for Human Rights saying he is deeply concerned about the developments in Caracas.

White House "investigating" British e-mail prankster who conned top Trump officials

The White House says it's taking "very seriously" reports that a British e-mail prankster managed to communicate directly with top Trump administration officials.


In a series of e-mails he pretended to be former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, and the President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner among others.

Crowds jeer Turkish coup plot defendants outside courthouse

Crowds of people have jeered the entrance of nearly 500 defendants outside a Turkish courthouse as their trial begins over last year's failed coup attempt.

Families of those who were killed in the unrest during the coup attempt shouted "murderers" as the suspects entered the court.

Some are calling for the death penalty to be reinstated in Turkey.

US begins to scale back diplomatic presence in Russia

The US has begun removing furniture and equipment from diplomatic properties in Moscow following a Kremlin order to slash American presence in Russia.
