Venezuelans Voting in Controversial Elections

Government supporters in Venezuela are preparing to go to the polls to elect members of a constituent assembly which Socialist President Nicolas Maduro says will bring peace to Venezuela. 

Millions of members of the Venezuelan opposition plan to boycott the vote. 
They say these elections may  mean the end of democracy in Venezuela.

Terror plot to bring down an Australian aircraft disrupted

Australian authorities have foiled a terrorist conspiracy to bring down a aircraft using an improvised explosive device.
Four men have been taken into custody after New South Wales and Australian Federal Police officers raided properties across Sydney.

Priebus fired, Kelly promoted in White House Chief of Staff Shakeup

US President Donald Trump has fired his White House Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus.


In his place, he's promoting the man who has overseen America's Department of Homeland Security, General John Kelly.

Protests banned in Venezuela ahead of elections

Venezuela has outlawed  protests that could disturb or affect the controversial election for a new constituent assembly scheduled for Sunday. 

The opposition says it plans to go ahead with a mass protest anyway.

Trump targets MS-13 gang

US President Donald Trump has promised to "dismantle, decimate and eradicate" the gang MS-13 from America.

The gang originated in LA in the 1980s, formed by immigrants from El Salvador, but has grown in size in the last few years.

President Trump gave a speech on Long Island in a community that has seen roughly 20 murders in the last 18 months.

The President said US authorities were now going to fight back against gang violence.

US Detects North Korea Missile Launch

The US detected a ballistic missile launch out of North Korea Friday,
the second launch in just a few weeks.The Pentagon confirmed it is
investigating what could be North Korea's 11th ballistic missile test
this year, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called an emergency
meeting of his National Security Council.

It comes after his father was detained earlier in the year by Mexican authorities, and his godfather, infamous kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmán is facing criminal charges in the US.

US GDP increases to 2.6% in Q2

The US economy grew at an improved rate of 2.6% in the second quarter,
according to the latest government data.

Consumer spending helped during the April to June period, but the
first quarter figure was revised down to just 1.2%.

UK Chancellor says 'transitional period' will follow up to two years after Brexit

The British Chancellor's latest comments on Brexit, indicate that there could be a 'transitional period' of up to three years after the UK leaves the European Union.


The Government has agreed to seek a transitional deal, during which time the UK could still access the single market, but insisted this would need to end before the next General Election in 2022

US Senate Majority Leader says healthcare 'skinny repeal' outcome 'disappointing'

US lawmakers voted down an attempt to repeal the Obamacare bill, with a majority of 51 to 49.


The Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has described the decision as 'disappointing' and said it would be 'time to move on' after the blow to US President Donald Trump's election promise to reform the healthcare act.


Mr McConnell had described the repeal, called the skinny repeal, as the right thing for the country, but agreed that efforts were not enough on this occasion to begin a repeal process.

UK Chancellor Attacks Opposition Leader on Election Promise U-Turn

UK Chancellor Philip Hammond has hit out at Opposition Leader Jeremy, Corbyn's election promises to scrap UK university tuition fees and write off any previous student debt.


He argues that the Labour Leader mislead the public and pledges made in his election campaign would have put a strain on the public purse.


It comes after a recent interview in which Jeremy Corbyn seemingly went back on comments he made saying he would 'deal with' exhausting student debt.

Grenfell Tower Investigation : Reasonable Grounds for Manslaughter Investigation

An investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire in London, in which it's believed 80 people died, has revealed that police believe there are reasonable grounds for manslaughter.


Fingers are reportedly being pointed at Kensington and Chelsea Council - the authority the tower block was under - and the tenant management organisation that was in charge of the day-to-day running of the block.


It's likely police will now interview senior executives under caution, over building regulations and decisions taken over the refurbishment of the block.


Elizabeth Campbell, the new council leader for Kensington and Chelsea said she hopes this will bring answers the local community has been searching for
