Australia to accept Central American refugees under US swap deal

Australia has agreed to accept Central American refugees from the United States under a refugee swap agreement with Washington.


In exchange, the US will take in over a thousand asylum seekers held at detention centers in Australia.

White House is working to de-escalate tension in Jerusalem

The US says its priority in the Middle East is to de-escalate tension after days of bloodshed in Jerusalem.

The deaths of three Israelis and four Palestinians in violence on Friday and Saturday raised international alarm and prompted a session of the United Nations Security Council to consider ways of defusing the crisis.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert says US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman and the President's special envoy Jason Greenblatt are working hard to calm the situation

Significant damage found in American football players brains

Studies of brains of American professional football players found nearly every one had damage.

In a new study published in the Journal of American Medical Association, 
87 percent of the brains studied had signs of CTE - chronic traumatic encephalopathy - that is brain damage, and furthermore, the evidence was found in all but one of the brains donated by the families of deceased professional football players.

The researchers caution, the brains were donated by cooperating families and may not represent all football players, while the National Football League has promised more funds for research.

US President refuses to rule out firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions


US President Donald Trump is refusing to rule out firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions after repeatedly criticising one of the most senior members of his cabinet in public.

President Trump labelled Mr Sessions "very weak" in a tweet on Tuesday after hitting out at him in an interview with the New York Times last week.

US to ban citizens travelling to North Korea

The State Department says it will bar US citizens from travelling to North Korea in a bid to prevent any more Americans from being taken prisoner.
The ban will come into effect 30 days after a notice is placed in the Federal Register, which is expected on Thursday.
It comes a month after American student Otto Warmbier died after being detained by the North Korean regime.
State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert says the administration doesn't want any more Americans to put themselves in danger.

Sen. McCain urges compromise, no rushing on health care

U.S. Senator John McCain is urging his fellow lawmakers to proceed with all deliberate care and due process to actually consider the key compromises to actually address the problems with American health care an insurance.

He returned to the chamber after a diagnosis of brain cancer ahead of a key vote to move to debate on repealing and replacing the legislation nicknamed Obamacare.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence was forced to cast the deciding vote. 

After the vote, Senator McCain condemned the process which brought the chamber to this point.

Two Chinese fighter jets have intercepted a US navy plane over the
