EU investigates allegations of German car collusion

The EU is looking at possible illegal collusion among five German car companies that could lead to record-breaking fines.

The European Commission has appointed a vice president to oversee the investigation.

Polish prime minister says government is determined to force through reforms

The Polish prime minister Beata Szydlo says her government is determined to push through controversial reforms to the judiciary - despite President Duda announcing on Monday he would veto the bill.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets across Poland on Monday night - they fear the government will rewrite the law and try to pass it again.

Study: Populism unlikely to swing German elections

According to a new survey, just under a third of eligible German voters could be described as hostile to the political establishment, or holding strong populist views.

However, centrist parties are still firmly in control of the political landscape heading into federal elections in September.

Kremlin warns White House against new “harmful” sanctions

India will not allow driverless cars

India's Transport Minister has said that driverless cars are not welcome in the country as they will lead to higher levels of unemployment.

The Minister has that India will instead focus on training people in driving skills to meet the shortage of 2 billion drivers.

The World Bank has said that 69% of all jobs in India are under risk from automation.

Dry Conditions Spark Fires and Cause Droughts Across Europe

Hot and dry conditions sweeping Europe have sparked forest fires in parts of France and have led to the Vatican shutting off all its famous fountains. 

In southeast France hundreds are now out of their homes as firefighters evacuate neighborhoods.

CHARLIE GARD'S PARENTS SPEND 'LAST MOMENTS'

The parents of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard are said to be spending their 'last precious moments' with him.

On Monday they ended their legal fight to take him to the US for treatment, insisting he could have been helped if his case hadn't been caught up in the courts.

Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London say the 11 month-old's rare genetic condition and brain damage mean that experimental therapy wouldn't have been of benefit.

Researchers say child “virtually cured” of HIV

A 9 year-old South African born with HIV has lived most of her life without treatment for the virus.

The case was revealed at an AIDS conference in Paris, where researchers say it offers hope for long-lasting remission that could eventually be considered a cure.

Pres. Trump demands Senate act on health care

U.S. President Donald Trump, with a few American families standing behind him, made a statement demanding the U.S. Senate begin work to repeal and replace the health care legislation nicknamed Obamacare.

With U.S. Senator John McCain out and under treatment for brain cancer, and other Republican senators saying they cannot support the legislation, the Senate Republicans do not have the votes to agree to begin debate.

UN envoy urges Jerusalem calm at Security Council meeting

The UN envoy for the Middle East Peace Process has called for calm in Jerusalem at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

It follows a week of reprisal attacks between Israelis and Palestinians.

The violence has been focused around the religiously important area of the Old City known as the Temple Mount by Jews and Haram esh-Sharif by Muslims.  

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, said the Security Council must unanimously condemn the violence.

UN: Nigeria must find all abducted girls

The United Nations panel of experts has called on Nigeria to intensify
its efforts to find all the remaining girls abducted by Boko Haram.
