US sees some progress in Qatar standoff

The standoff between Qatar and neighboring Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt remains unresolved after several days of shuttle diplomacy by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

The sanctions and blockade are a particular concern to the U.S. becaues Qatar hosts one of the largest American military facilities in the region.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert thanked the Kuwatis for their efforts to mediate.

Afghan robotics team wins US visas

Afghan robotics team wins US visas

A team of Afghani girls has finally won a set of visas to participate in an upcoming robotics competition.

Teams from nearly 160 countries are set to compete in Washington, but several teams have struggled to get visas and other permissions to travel to the U.S.

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert refused to comment on the state of visas for the Afghan girls but welcomed their participation.

Condolences from US on death of Liu Xiaobo

The U.S. State Department is mourning the death of Chinese human rights campaigner Liu Xiaobo from liver cancer.

In his final days, Washington urged Beijing to release the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner for treatment for his illnesses.

His wife remains under house arrest.

All-Girl Afghan Robotics Team Granted Entry to US for Competition

A team of six teenaged girls from Afghanistan are on their way to compete in an academic robotics competition in the United States. Their initial visa applications were denied.

Trump says US interests must come first in trade deals

American President Trump has stressed his commitment to putting American interests first, during a visit to France.

At a news conference in Paris after meeting French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump praised co-operation on areas including terrorism and the fight against ISIS. 

But he said he would continue to pursue deals that maximised US needs, as Americans strived for better economic prospects.

President Trump defends son over Russia meeting

American President Donald Trump has defended his son for meeting with a Russian lawyer in the hope of getting damaging information on Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Speaking at a news conference in Paris after meeting French President Emmanuel Macron, President Trump described his son, Donald Junior, as a wonderful young man who had done nothing wrong.

The US Ambassador to China has called for the release of all prisoners of conscience there, following the death of political activist Liu Xiaobo.

Trump Hotels disclose third-party data breach compromising guest info at 14 properties

Trump International Hotels Management has been a victim of another data breach, after hackers gained access to customer account information through a third party reservation system.


Trump Hotels said the breach that occurred between August 2016 and March this year had compromised payment card data at fourteen of its properties.

Innovative cancer treatment one step closer to approval in the US

An innovative cancer treatment that can rid children and young adults of leukemia has been unanimously endorsed  by a panel of advisors to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The treatment is considered a last-ditch approach for young people suffering from leukemia who haven't responded to other treatments.

"Fundamental disagreements" between NATO, Russia over Ukraine remain unresolved

NATO-Russia Council meeting was 'useful' but 'fundamental disagreements' between the two sides remain, the Alliance's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg (said Thursday). 

He described the talks as "frank and useful" while Russia said not enough is being done to de-escalate tensions between the two rivals.

Parents of Charlie Gard walk out of court over dispute

The parents of a critically ill 11 month old boy have walked out of Britain's High Court after a disagreement with the judge hearing the case on whether they can move their son overseas for  experimental treatment.

NATO will share concerns to Russia over unsafe pilot behavior

Representatives from Russia and NATO will meet in Brussels to discuss NATOs concern's over the confrontational behavior of Russian pilots flying over the Baltic Sea.  

Last month a Russian fighter jet came within a few meters of a U.S. plane.
