MAY DENIES UK LOSING GLOBAL INFLUENCE

Theresa May says it's not the case that Britain is losing global influence as it leaves the European Union.

The UK Prime Minister's been pressed at the G20 summit in Hamburg on whether political and economic uncertainty over Brexit are harming attempts to show global leadership.

Mrs May also faces ongoing speculation over her position after failing to win a parliamentary majority for the Conservative Party.

US concerned that Qatar dispute at impasse

The United States is worried that the dispute between Qatar and its neighbours is at an impasse and could escalate.

Saudi Arabia and other countries have imposed an economic blockade on Qatar, accusing it of sponsoring terrorism.

Qatar denies this and is refusing demands to close a Turkish airbase, downgrade ties with Iran and close the al-Jazeera television network.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert says there is a danger the dispute could worsen, but she says US diplomats are working hard with all countries involved.
