US Congressman shot in Republican baseball attack is back in intensive care


A US Congressman who was shot by a gunman during an attack on a Republican baseball team practice last month is now back in intensive care.

House majority whip Steve Scalise has been in hospital since the shooting just outside Washington DC.

Just-released photo suggests Amelia Earhart may have survived Pacific crash

Investigators into the never-resolved mystery of Amelia Earhart's death have released a photo suggesting she may have survived a crash in the Pacific and been captured by the Japanese.

The aviator disappeared in 1937 on an attempt to become the first female pilot to fly around the globe.

Mexico: Drug cartel shootout leaves 14 dead

Authorities in the Mexico's northern state of Chihuaha confirmed that at least 14 people were killed on Wednesday during a gun fight between two drug cartels. 

So far, three people have been detained following the shootout.

American firm fined $3m for smuggling artifacts

US arts and crafts company Hobby Lobby has been fined $3 million for buying thousands of artifacts smuggled out of Iraq.

The firm bought the items to include in a museum about the Bible.

Manchester police say Arena suicide bombing may have involved others

China, India issue warnings over border stand-off days ahead of Modi-Xi meeting

India and China have both mobilised troops along the shared border in the North Indian state of Sikkim. China has accused India of violating its territory while India claims that China is trying to build a road on Indian soil.

US threatens military force against North Korea

At a fiery session of the United Nations Security Council the US has threatened to use military force "if we must" in response to North Korea's latest missile test. 

The US ambassador also threatened countries, including China, which aided Pyongyang's weapons program by continuing to trade with the country.
