China reacts angrily to US warship sailing close to disputed island in South China Sea


A US warship sailed close by a disputed island in the South China Sea on Sunday in a maneouvre that's angered China.

Taiwan, Vietnam and China all maintain that Triton Island in the Paracel Islands is their territory, but the US does not recognise their claims.

Man charged for plot to assassinate French President Macron on Bastille Day

A man has been charged with plotting to assassinate French President Emmanuel Macron at the upcoming Bastille Day parade in Paris.


The self-described French nationalist was arrested last Wednesday.

18 people feared dead in German tour bus crash

As many as eighteen people may have been killed in the German state of Bavaria when a tour bus crashed into the back of a lorry.

Thirty people were also seriously injured in the crash.

McDonald's shuts down 80% of its outlets in Delhi

Fast food giant McDonald's has suspended operations in 43 of its 55 outlets in New Delhi without giving any reason for the sudden closure. 


The company claims that this is a temporary move and that it is working to renew licenses. 


The closure comes at a time when McDonald's is struggling to regain market space in the sector- having lost the crown of India's largest fast food chain to Domino's Pizza.

PRESSURE GROWS OVER UK PAY FREEZE

Pressure is growing on UK Prime Minister Theresa May to signal an easing to austerity by ending a cap on public sector pay.

Pay rises for five million public sector workers have been effectively frozen at 1% since 2013.
