London Fire Brigade confirms "number of fatalities" in apartment block fire

The head of London Fire Brigade has confirmed that there have been a "number of fatalities" following a massive fire in a 24 storey apartment block in west London. 

Commissioner Dany Cotton said she could not comment on the number of dead due to the large and complex nature of the block which was home to 120 apartments.  

 30 people have been taken to hospital for treatment and firefighters remain on the scene trying to douse the flames. 

Commissioner Cotton said the fire started on the second floor and engulfed the whole block.

Nominations open for India's Presidential Elections

India has formally begun the process of electing its next President. The term of the incumbent Pranab Mukherjee comes to an end on July 24

The President in India is just a nominal constitutional head, however these elections are being seen as a precursor to the next general elections in the country.

Voting takes place on July 17th and the votes will be counted three days later.

Privatisation talks hold back Air India's fleet expansion

Air India has reportedly put plans to expand its fleet on hold as the government continues to look at potentially privatising the airline.

The loss-making flag carrier is in billions of dollars of debt.

Huge apartment block fire continues amid fears of casualties

More than 200 firefighters are still tackling a massive fire in a 24 storey apartment block in West London. 

30 people have been taken to hospitals after being rescued however there are fears that a large number of residents are unaccounted for.   Eyewitness accounts say people trapped inside could be seen at windows calling for help.  

There are concerns the block could collapse and police have been warning nearby residents to leave their properties.

Massive fire rips through London tower block

A huge fire has engulfed one side of a twenty-seven storey tower block in west London.

Two hundred firefighters are on the scene along with at least twenty ambulences. Police say a number of people are being treated for a range of injuries.

A huge fire has engulfed one side of a twenty-four storey tower block in west London.

Firefighters are on the scene. The Metropolitan Police said "an evacuation process is under way".

US AG denies stonewalling in Senate hearing (wrap)

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has rejected suggestions that he's hiding something about his contacts with Russians. 

Speaking at a congressional hearing on Tuesday he said any such implication was an "appalling and detestable lie". 

Senate Democrat Ron Wyden accused Sessions of "stonewalling" by refusing to answer some questions.

STATE DEPT: 'grateful' American student released from North Korea detention


North Korea has released an American student who was serving a 15-year prison term, according to the US Secretary of State 

In a statement Rex Tillerson said Otto Warmbier was returning to the US to be reunited with his family.

However, Warmbier's parents told US media that their son was medically evacuated from the isolated nation in a coma.

US AG Jeff Sessions: suggestion he colluded with Russia "appalling & detestable lie"

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he has never had discussions with Russian officials about meddling in the US presidential election.  
Speaking at a congressional hearing on Tuesday he told the Senate Intelligence Committee any such implication was a lie.
His remarks come days after sacked FBI boss James Comey said he believed he was fired because of the Russia probe.

Uber CEO Takes Leave of Absence

Uber's CEO Travis Kalanick is taking a leave of absence for an unspecified period of time.

752 fall ill and 2 dead from food poisoning at Iraqi refugee camp

Suspected North Korean drone found with photos of US Thaad anti-missile site

A suspected North Korean drone reportedly photographed an American US Thaad anti-missile site in South Korea, before crashing near the border between both countries.


A South Korean official told news agencies the drone took about ten photos.

May and Corbyn back in parliament after surprise election results

Britain's political leaders have returned to the parliament, even while the Conservative party remain in talks with Northern Ireland's DUP to agree a deal that will support a minority government. 

DUP leader Arlene Foster told reporters she hoped a deal could be reached soon as she left talks in Downing Street.  Meanwhile Prime Minister Theresa May was back in Parliament to welcome new members.     It comes as she has faced fierce criticism from senior members of her Conservative party after an unexpectedly poor performance in last week's general election.

Top Republican warns Trump not to fire Special Prosecutor investigating Russia ties

Top Republicans are warning President Trump not to try and fire the Special Prosecutor who is investigating possible ties between the Trump campaign last year and the Russians.
