MAY STARTS DIFFICULT WEEK AFTER ELECTION

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is attempting to shore up her position following last week's election which left a hung parliament.

She's carried out a cabinet reshuffle amid speculation about her position as leader of the Conservative Party.

Later (approx 16GMT) she'll meet backbench MPs who have questions about her Brexit strategy and leadership style.

On Tuesday she's due to finalise a deal with Northern Ireland's DUP to support her in minority government.

Macron's party on to win large majority in French parliamentary elections

French president Emmanuel Macron is set for another big win with his party on course to win the most seats in the first round of parliamentary elections.

The centrist La République En Marche (pron: marsh) party was only established just over one year ago and many of its candidates have never held office before.

Farmers in Indian state of Maharashtra call off protests

Farmers in the state of Maharashtra in India have called off their protests temporarily after the state government agreed to write off their loans.

The state - which is where the city of Mumbai is located - has one of the highest rates of farmers committing suicide in the country.

India's heatwave gets more deadly, over 200 dead in 2017

With over 200 heatwave related deaths in India in April and May, experts have sounded an alarm- cautioning that the number will rise significantly in the months ahead.

A new study by researchers from University of California and IIT Bombay and Delhi has found that increasing temperatures have increased the probability of deaths caused by heat by 150%.

In the last four years, India has witnessed as many as 4,620 deaths caused by heat wave.

Uber boss could be forced to take leave of absence

Uber's chief executive could be forced to take a leave of absence under changes being considered by the ride-hailing firm.

US lawmakers urge Trump to turn over Comey tapes

US lawmakers are calling for President Donald Trump to produce any tapes of his conversations with sacked FBI Chief James Comey.

Mr Trump alluded to the existence of the tapes in a May tweet.

House committee asks for Trump tapes

The House Intelligence Committee has now formally asked for any tapes U.S. President Donald Trump might have made during conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.

During a press conference with the President of Romania, President Trump indicated he'd answer questions about possible tapes shortly.

Trump Undercuts US Diplomatic Efforts on Qatar

Pres. Trump refuses to answer questions about tapes

U.S. President Donald Trump is refusing to answer whether there recordings of the meetings between him and former FBI Director James Comey.

During testimony under oath to the U.S. Senate's Intelligence Committee, James Comey said if there are tapes, he gives blanket permission for them to be released.

President Trump was the first to bring up the idea in a tweet weeks ago, saying James Comey better hope there are NOT tapes, but now the American president wouldn't answer questions.

Pres. Trump calls on Qatar to stop funding terrorism

U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to re-escalate the tension in the Persian Gulf, by calling on Qatar to immediately stop the funding of terrorism.

Just a short while earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt to ease the blockade against Qatar.

Now, President Trump is calling on Qatar to end terrorist financing as quickly as possible.

Pres. Trump commits to NATO Article 5

U.S. President Donald Trump has finally publicly committed to Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which assures each member will help defend other member nations.

The American president failed to make this commitment during a major speech at the opening of the new headquarters of NATO in Brussels a few weeks ago.

According to reports, the language on Article 5 was removed from the speech at the last minute.

US arrests two Hezbollah operatives for terrorism-related activities

The US Department of Justice has arrested two Americans working undercover for the Lebanon-based organization Hezbollah, which is designated by the US as a foreign terrorist organization.
